Do you think other girls will be encouraged to run since Leslie ran and got first place?

I think that Jess feels like an outcast in his family because he is caught in the middle, and also because he is the only boy. Think about it, being the only person in the family that doesn't have a playmate or have anybody to tell your secrets to. If it was me I would wish for a trustful friend.

I like this book so far because it is funny and strange at the same time. Jesse seems to have quick wit and a passion for drawing. I wonder why he likes this teacher that he talks about?

I feel kind of bad for Jesse because he is the only boy in his family and he is trapped in the middle. I feel that Jesse is determined, lonely, smart, witty and talented. So far he seems ok.

I think Jess is a hard working, determined, talented friendly, lonely, nice boy. I think he should get more fun things to do and less chores. Also I don't think he should be so shy about his feelings to his family.

Hi Katie.I think I found your anwser to why Jesse has to be the fastest runner.
He has to because he wants to show off his speed.
He wants to be faster so he can tag people in tag maybe?
I wonder why Jesse wants to beat Leslie?

I think that Jesse is very hardworking and determined and that he has a lot of guts to wake up every morning and run so he can be the fastest in grade 5.

Dear Lisa W.
We totally agree with you on your comment about Jesse. He is also an artistic boy!

I am a little confused because Jesse is partial to drawing strange animals instead of drawing normal animals like normal people. I feel that he should not be so competitive when it comes to running. It makes me wonder why people actually feel that they need to prove themselves.
