She definitely thought of Bud as a "flower-to-be" who needed lots of love to grow! Here's a discussion topic: As Bud walks into the library, he takes a deep breath and thinks about how "no other place smells anything like it." He mentions the different things that give the library its special smell. What are some places in your own life that have distinctive smells. How do you feel when you are in these places?

I don't know if they would be willing to believe anything bad about their little "darling." Those people make me so mad! How could they be so mean to an innocent homeless boy like Bud?
