I think that this book has a great beginning. I also think that Bud should leave the Amos's because they are to mean to him. Espicially Tod. I hope he leaves......what do you think he will do?

We would rate the book 9 or 10 because we don't both agree on what to rate it. It's not the best book Katie has ever read, her favorite books have more suspense,or horror.I(Kali) would rate it a 10 because I like all varieties of books. What I like about the book is that it is in the olden days & I like to learn about the past. We also would like to know why you rate it a 10?

We would rate the book as a 8, because the author could have changed some stuff like after Bud left the Amos' they would find out that Toddy really beat up Bud and they felt really bad.We want this to happen so the Amos' will find Bud and apalogize. Then help Bud find his dad.Maybe a year later they find him. But we still think it is a good book.
Do you think the author should have changed anything? If so, what?

What Bud means is that the library door closed and there must be another place that he will end up next. The next place that he ends up in is Hooverville. I wouldn't like to be in a place like that. I felt sorry for the family with the baby that was sick. They didn't get to sit around the big fire. They had to use tin cans for dishes.

Hi,
What do you think Bud learned about families?
I think he learned about how they take care of you and are kind to you because he never knew how they were because he was so little when his only family member left.
Like Bud's pretend family and how they pretended to be his family so he could get some food and when the lady shared her brown suger between bud and her two kids.

I do not like this book. It's not that good. I found it slow. I like comedic books. Well that is my opinion. The thing that Bud is talking about with the doors is that one opportunity closes and one opens. He met Clarence at the library and that opened the door for Bud to get food.

i agree with u when u say that you think that it was funny about how Mrs Amos put down the rubber sheets on the bed. i think that's what Bud is talking about doors opening and closing means that like the doors of the Amoses and library are opened and he is welcomed there even though the Amoses are getting paid to take care of him. i think that when he means that the doors are closing that he means that he is leaving and going some place other than where he just was.

hi,
I like the book too.
I like how the author did a really good job on this book. It is a book that is well written and gets to the point. The author doesn't make it like a documentary, plain and boring. The author has excitement and writes it like he's Bud and is looking for his dad. I also like this book because it is a cliffhanger. It's written like when you're watching a T.V. show and they go into a commercial break when the person in the show just ran into a bad guy.

Hello anyone,
I don't think Bud is lost because everyone he met on the way to Chicago acts like people have been there before. Bud feels that he is not alone because they treat him like he is in a good family and they really want him to stay with them. He is acting like a good person to them and he was leaving Flint to go to Grand Rapids and knows it won't be long to get there because it is only one hundred and twenty miles away and divided that by five and got twenty four and he thought it meant twenty four hours to Grand Rapids

I agree with Kali on this one (sorry Katie)...I like all sorts of books. This book seems to make me interested because of the details he uses and the phrases such as "I put my head down and started shooting apologies out like John Dillinger shoots bullets (p.16). I like the way the autor adds that to his books also like the Watsons Go to Burmingham--1963. I also like Horror stories like you Katie and some of them are really good and scary, but this book catches my attention (well so far). There are other books that I like a lot that I would give 10's to also. I like all book!:)
