I think Mr.C is so mean to Bud because he never knew that Bud was kin to him ,or had never known that he had a grandson.P.S I'm on the last chapter.

Thanks for your comments!

It is interesting to read about Herman E. Calloway and to try to figure out what's going on in his mind.

Were you surprised by events at the end of Chapter 18? Why, or why not? I was kind of surprised.

I was just thinking about life for African-American musicians at the time this story takes place. It was pretty difficult, wasn't it? What do you think?

He started cryinng because he did not know that his daughter was dead. Also he remembers that he used to bring her rocks and was very strict with her. Thats why she ran away.

I also agree, I to think Herman E. Calloway is Bud's grandpa because he is very old and likes and does the same stuff as Bud.

Hi,
What Chapter are you on?
I am on chapter 14, going on to chapter 15.
Who do you think Herman E. Callaway is?
I think that he is Bud's Father, but doesn't want to say anything, for some reason.
I think that Herman E. Callaway is not Bud's father because Herman is not talking to Bud and if Herman was his father he would act like a father.

They could of made the ending more interesting and more fun.
The book was a good book for the time of the great Depression.

I have read the whole book and think it's really good exept for the ending I personally think it's really stupid. The auther could have made the book so much more longer and better. I don't know what you'll think about the ending, but let me know when you're finished.

If you send back so will I.

Hi,

Do you think the story sounds believable? I think it sounds real because there's a little boy in a orphanage who does not know where his family is and finally he finds his family at the end.

Hi
Yes, I do think that it is wierd that even when Mr.Calloway
owns the band he has to sign the document under a white man's name. I think that this happened because of all of the racest stuff that was going on at the time.
Thank you for writing.

I think I get what is going to happen at the end of the book. I'm only on chapter 17 I think that Herman E. Calloway will be Bud's dad and Bud will join the band and will live in Grand Rapids.

Hey everyone, hows it going?
I think the book is great! If the same author was to write another book I would be glad to read it and I'm sure that it would be just as great. Why do you think that Christopher had an afterword? What do you think?

hi,
You dont have to write back but you can if you want!
I think this book is really good and interesting because its got twists and turns.
Does anyone know what the blood in the back of Mr Lewis's car is for? I know that he was taking it to the hospital (or at least thats what he said) I think he was taking it to the hospital so someone could have heart surgery or he really was a vampire but a very nice one
Why did Mr. Lewis take him to his house, hasn't he ever heard of people burning houses down?
The Amoses, don't you think they should be arrested for putting people in the shed with fish heads and bees nests in it?
How old do you think Mr.C is?
I think he was 69 years old.
