I agree that I would like to know why Todd stuck the pencil up Bud's nose, but I think he did it because he didn't want a stranger in his home.

I think that H.E.C is Bud,s grandpa or something like that.
He seems too old to be his dad. Does anybody agree with me?

I really like the book because its kind of interesting because I didn't know that much about this time period and what it was like to live back then. I also like how the author uses phrases such as ...cool as a cucumber, or He who laughs last laughs best. What do you think?

I think that Herman E calloway isn't his father and that one of the other guys might be his father that Herman E Calloway is related to him but not his father

Hi! Thanks for your comments today! Just a little bit of advice: When you reply, try to give more than a one-word answer. That way it's easier for all of us to understand what you are saying and who you are responding to. Thank you.

I agree with you. I think Herman E. Calloway is an alias, and he just didn't want Bud's mom to find out where he was (but I think he still misses his wife, but he doesn't know she is dead).

I still think he sounds like his dad, and he talks like his dad, but Herman still sounds like he is 50.

Dear Hobie,
I would rate the book a 7 or 8. I think Mr. Herman E. Callaway is Bud's relative or long lost father. I think this because he is so shocked that Bud has come to find him.
