get into the book and then you will see that it is not that boring.If you call Gary Paulsen's books boring well
at least he wrote 2 not 1 but 2 Newberry honor awards.

Have you ever been out camping and all of a sudden you were attacked by a cloud of mosquitoes like Brian was. I have. Last summer I was camping when all of a sudden a cloud of mosquitoes came up and started biting us. It was so bad we had to leave and find another camp site.

I think chapter 7 is suprising.Brian thought it was not safe to go out with the bears alone. He could get hurt badly. But the bear did not want to hurt him. He probably smelled berry juice and bears lke that.

My favorite part of the book is when Brain pulled out the hatchet and pulled it up to his head and his hand was on the handle. It was so cool that he remembers the hatchet that he had. He can use it to survive!

If I was Brian I would be scared to death, to be attacked by mosquuitos twice in swams. Also I would ask my mom why she was with the blond-haired man and why she wanted to breack up her marriage with my father. Would you do the same? What would you do?
