Brian is changing by acting more mature.
When I say he is acting more mature I mean he
is finding out that being an adult is not what
it seems like when you are a child. When you are
a child you think that adults are so lucky because
they can do what ever they want to do but when you
get older you see that there are a lot of other
responsibilities to being an adult.Like having to
wash your clothes, get groceries and most of all
getting a good paying job.

reader,
I think brian had a bad idea to stay in the shelter when he heard a growl. He should've ran out of the shelter. i don't know he keeps on thinking about Terry? Terry's at his house eating a burger, when Brian is in the wilderness eating berries and berry juice. I don't see the connection. I can see why he feels sad and has self pity tears, but why doesn't he do something about it. He just eats, sleeps, and drinks.

hi everybody! its me again! i think that Hatchet is a very boring book, 8 and 9 were pretty boring, i actually thought that the book so far is pretty boring. i dont know what will happen in the end but i hope that its good. so far all of the action has only happened when he was pricked by the porcupine. another part was when the bear just looked at brian and did not even care that he was even standing there. but when the bear left brian ran for his life.other than that there was no action. i just hope that at least the end of the book Hatchet will have a little more action. write back!

I was thinking, before the fire part that he will make fire with stones. I was close. I also thought that the hatchet was to defend himself, but it was really used for making the fire. It was cool that he finally made it. Now he can relax a bit more because he has a fire. If I was in Brian's position I wold be very, very, very happy! I hope that Brian will survive his test in the wilderness.

Hi, how you all doing. Ryan K. that was very powerful and that is exactly the way I feel about the book. This kid happens to land at a lake, happens to find a hole in a mountain, happens to survive the crash. This kid is like a superkid or something and he said heroes in movies always survive and find exactly what their looking when they're lost in the forest and he says it didn't happen to him. It's exactly the same thing! This book needs more action in it too.

I think its cool that Brian started the fire, but if he keeps it lit the whole night he is taking a big risk. If the fire spreds it could be bye, bye, for him. I think the book is getting better but I think the bear will come back in the middle of the night and scare Brian Brian. Brian will eventually have to find other food I don't think berries every day is a very good meal. I wonder how this story will end I wonder if Brian will ever get out of the woods alive?

Howdy anthony from Chesnut Ridge Middle SchooL. First of all how can the hatchet stay sharp if he bangs bans it agenst the rock. How come the sparks don't start him on fire. I think this book should be more realistick. It should say he got caught on fire or he should run out of ax like it gets too dull to ,make sparkes and he freeses to death. That would make this book alot more interesting for all of the people who read thid book. It would probably attract alot more people. i think this book should end like where he would never get found and he would live with the animals.

I like the book so far. My favorite part is when the porcupine came in his lean-to. Then it attacked him. he really shouldn't have thrown his "HATCHET". What I think he should have done was put the hatchet out in front of him to see if anything was going to take it from his hand. If it didn't he would know that it was not a visious animal or human. But in other words he probabualy would not have been able to think that quik.

I like this book. It is very exiting i have read it before so i know what he will do and what is going on but it is very good. even if you have already read it. it still keeps you in suspence. The more you read it the more you will like it. in the begining it is sort of slow but gets better. I think that it is very neat how he handles everything like how he builds his shelter and stuff. But it is cool when later in the book when you see how he finds food.

Hey everyone, we just read up to chapter 9. We think the book has gotten a little better. We think it was kinda stupid to have the porcpine in that chapter, it was just a way to fill up a bunch of pages in our thought even though it was pretty funny. We think he should dive into the water and retrieve the survival kit. If someone thinks he needs air under there, he should try to make a bag or someting like the ancient indians did. Does anyone have an idea on the blonde haired man? We are more then positive that his mom is cheating on his dad so that she can be with this blonde haired man. Does anybody have any idea of what is going on(just make inferences don't tell us what happenes in the next chapters)? We have a slight feeling that the animals might help him out, it all puts together, the parrots leading him to the berries, the bear sharing the berries, and the fox on the front cover of the book.
Please write back -
