Monday, October 19	Chaps. 1-2	Write about the layering of stories in Walk Two Moons. What two stories are you going to be told as you read? How does the author introduce these two stories? Why might the author want to put these stories together in one novel? What are your first impressions of the characters in the book?
Tuesday, October 20	Chaps. 3-4	What things frighten you? Do you consider yourself to be a brave person? Describe a situation in which you or someone you know did something brave. How does the situation compare to Sal's handling of the spider?
Wednesday, October 21	Chaps. 5-6	If you made any character maps, what things did you write for each character? What are you learning about Sal's personality through the actions and descriptions of other characters? Compare how Mrs. Winterbottom appears to each of the other characters with how she seems to feel about herself and her life. Why do you think Sal is the only one to notice that she seems sad?
Thursday, October 22	Chaps. 7-8	Are you enjoying the "story within a story" format of Walk Two Moons? Why do you think the author chose to tell the stories in this way? What do you think of Phoebe's imagination? Do you think her ideas about characters and events are accurate? Why? What do you think of Gram and Gramps? Do they remind you of anyone you know?
Friday, October 23	Chaps. 9-10	What do you think the message "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins" means? Can you think of examples from your own life to support your explanation of the message? What do you think "huzza, huzza" means? Have you found any other "wonderful words" in your reading? Describe a time when you had feelings of panic similar to the ones Sal has when she cannot find Gram.
Monday, October 26	Chap. 11	What do you think the second message means? Who do you think is sending the messages, and why? Who do you think "the lunatic" is? What do you think of the relationship between Sal and Ben? How do you feel about Mrs. Cadaver?
Tuesday, October 27	Chaps. 12-13	Do you know any family stories that have been passed down through the years, like the story of Gram and Gramps and their marriage bed? Why are stories like this fun to tell? Have you ever had a teacher like Mr. Birkway? Why might he want the class to write in journals? Write about the pipe that Sal shares with her grandparents. How do you feel about this tradition?
Wednesday, October 28	Chaps. 14-15	If you recorded any more "wonderful words" in your journal, explain why you like them. What is your own theory about Mrs. Cadaver? Explain your theory and provide evidence from the book. Predict what you think will happen next in the story. What is your impression of the stranger who takes Gramps's wallet and then helps Gram on the way to the hospital? Have you ever been in an emergency situation like Gram's? Were you the one in need of help, or did you have to help someone else? Explain the situation and how you felt during it. What did you learn about Gram, Gramps, and Sal in Chapters 14-15? Were you surprised at how the scene at the river turned out?
Thursday, October 29	Chaps. 16-18	Write about family sayings and expressions used in your family or among your friends. Explain what the expressions mean and why you think people use them. In what ways is your family like or unlike the Winterbottom family? the Hiddle family? What do you think Mrs. Cadaver has to do with Sal's story?
Friday, October 30	Chaps. 19-20	Why do you think Sal flinches when she is touched? Why did she not flinch when Ben touched her hand in Chapter 20? Can you think of a time in your own life when you have flinched or seen someone else flinch? Why do you think this happened? Do you ever feel as if you're trying to "catch fish in the air"? Write about a specific experience from your own life. What do you think is really happening in Phoebe's family, and why is it happening?
Monday, November 2	Chaps. 21-22	If you did a soul drawing, compare and contrast it with those done by some of your classmates. Write a response to what you see. Write about the evidence that Phoebe finds. What do you think it proves or does not prove about Mrs. Winterbottom's disappearance?
Tuesday, November 3	Chaps. 23-24	How do you think the tragedy of the baby's death affected the Hiddle family? Have you ever felt as if the "birds of sadness" were flying around your head? Write about this experience.
Wednesday, November 4	Chaps. 25-26	What is really going on in Phoebe's mind? Why is she acting the way she is toward people? Can you relate to the experience of having difficult feelings affect how you treat other people? Have you ever had to try to deal with a difficult person? Respond to Sal's dream in Chapter 26. What do you think it means? How does it relate to the story and to how Sal is feeling?
Thursday, November 5	Chaps. 27-29	Think about all the messages that Phoebe has received. Taken as a whole, what do you suppose they mean? After community share, write about the different interpretations that people in your class have of Phoebe's messages.
Friday, November 6	Chaps. 30-31	Write about an incident in the story from another character's point of view (besides Sal's). Have you ever done anything that you consider to be daring? Have you ever seen someone do something daring? What do you think the lunatic has to do with the story? Why was he in the picture with Sergeant Bickle? Predict what you think will happen next with this character.
Monday, November 9	Chaps. 32-33	Write about how you would feel if something personal that you wrote was read aloud without your permission.
Tuesday, November 10	Chaps. 34-36	Write about any characters or aspects of the story that are becoming clearer to you at this point.
Wednesday, November 11	Chaps. 37-39	Write about anything in Chapters 37-39 that you thought was interesting, or about any responses you have to the story so far.
Thursday, November 12	Chaps. 40-44	How do you feel about the story's ending? Why?
