Book Club Lesson Plan: The View from Saturday, Lesson 14

Language Conventions:
Writing Process

GOAL:
To have students construct a written piece based on prior log entries to be used for assessment purposes

ASSIGNED READING:
None

ONLINE PROMPT:
Use the Student Comment Form to share ideas and questions with your online peers. Check yesterday's Student Comments page to see if there are any comments you want to respond to.

  • Students should take out the graphic organizer they created for Lesson 2, 4, or 5 (teacher chooses one -- it should be the same for all students) and from that construct a well-written piece.

  • This should be done as a process writing assignment. Prior to the assignment, hand out a sheet with specific guidelines regarding your expectations for this writing: content; revisions (1st, 2nd, 3rd drafts?); editing (spelling, punctuation, neatness). Depending on your group of students, allow three to four days to work on and complete this assignment.

  • Concluding the Unit: Students should complete an End-of-Book Self-Assessment sheet. A good model is located in the Blackline Masters: Assessment section following page 281 of the Book Club teacher's handbook.
