| From: Haris Grade 5 C.L.K. Elementary Calumet, MI | To: everyone Eben, I do agree with you. I think Marty is sometimes honest because he is trying to save Shiloh because I think Judd doesn't treat his dogs as pets but as hunting material. I think Marty shouldn't give all his food to Shiloh because his family is poor and he is wasting food. Marty isn't having a lot a food and he is giving most of his food to Shiloh. He isn't giving Shiloh proper dog food. |

| From: Brandon Grade 5 John T. Tuck Burlington, Ontario | To: Micheal Hi Micheal, this book has been very interesting isn't it. I think Marty is telling a white lie because Marty is trying to save man's best friend and Marty's not giving back the dog because Judd treats his dog horribly. Micheal, please send back why you feel Marty is not giving Shilo back to Judd. |

| From: Hannah Grade 5 John T. Tuck Burlington, Ontario | To: Eben Eben, I think Marty doesn't have to lie because if he told the truth in the first place maybe Judd could listen plus I don't think Judd is such a bad person anymore. I think Judd is not so mean now because he was raised abused so maybe Judd is abusing his dogs who are like his children because that's how HE was raised!! |

| From: Eric Grade 5 John T. Tuck Burlington, Ontario | To: Michael Michael, I agree with you, I think Judd is so mean because something bad has happened to him in his life. I think it's because he has no relatives because they have all died and he's got nobody to be with him around Christmas and times like that. I think deep down Judd is a good guy, he's just mad. |

| From: Emily Grade 5 John T. Tuck Burlington, Ontario | To: Phoebe Phoebe, I think I can answer your question. I think that Marty is honest most of the time because when Judd asked him if he saw Shiloh in the backyard and Marty said no and it was true, he saw him in the field. When we think he lies, they are good lies because Judd treats his dogs very poorly like chaining him up and not feeding him like he should. In conclusion, I think that Marty is honest. |

| From: Holden Grade 5 John T. Tuck Burlington, Ontario | To: Phoebe I think Marty is an honest person. Just because Marty lies a lot, it doesn't mean they're bad lies. Marty's only bad lie was when he lied to David about his mother having a headache. His other lies were lies of omission. I think Marty's lies of omission are alright because he's helping Shiloh. So I think Marty is honest in a way. |

| To: Everyone Thanks for all your answers to my question about Marty! You're all great thinkers. I agree with what many of you said--that Marty is basically an honest person but, in the case of Shiloh, he feels he needs to hide information because he thinks Shiloh's life is at stake. What a tough dilemma! And you can tell hiding the truth is pretty difficult for him—which sort of tells you that he is usually honest. Do you agree? Does anyone have anything more to add? |

| To: Nathan Thanks for pointing out the differences between Marty's family and David's family. You explained it really well! I guess that's what makes the question of what to do about Shiloh so difficult for Marty. He knows his family can't really spare the food it takes to feed the dog. If it were David trying to take care of Shiloh, getting food wouldn't be so difficult. I feel bad that Marty is in such a difficult position. What does everyone else think? |
