Hello! Yesterday's discussion was cool! You guys brought up some good points about Marty and Shiloh and Marty's mom and David. Let's keep it going . . .

One student compared and contrasted Marty's conflict with a conflict in another book. Does anyone else want to give this a try? We'd love to hear your ideas.

When we think of Judd we compare him to the Grinch. We think they are alike because they both have a small heart and neither one of them care about anybody but themselves. We also think Judd could change and start to care about others and his dogs just like the Grinch did.

When you think of Judd what/who do you think of? When you have your answer please write back.

I think that Judd will give Shiloh to Marty after he brings Shiloh back because of how well Marty treats him. I also think that Judd might change his personalty. Do you think that Judd willl ever change? Do you think that Judd might give up Shiloh?

How do you think Judd would rank these things:
*following the law
*being 100% honest
*obeying one's parents
*doing what one feels is right

I think Judd would put doing what he feels right first because he does many illegal things. Second would be being honest because he usually is pretty sincere. Third would be obeying one's parents because he is cruel like his father. Last would be obeying the law because he breaks laws.

What do you think?

We talked about Marty's ethics and our own. I think Marty believes doing what one thinks is right is the most important thing. Obeying one's parents is second, following the law is third, and being 100% honest is fourth. I think this because Marty does what he thinks is right to protect Shiloh. But he doesn't like lying to his parents or breaking the rules. He doesn't really obey his parents, and he is half breaking the law and half following it. He's breaking the law because the person who buys the dog is the owner. He is following the law because he doesn't want people to mistreat their animals. Marty really has a mess on his hands! Have you ever had a big mess on your hands the way Marty does? What did you do?
