To Tristan in Jericho VT: We think "The Free Danes" is illegal because it might have special information about the Nazi soldiers. We also think it was written in code. Do You? We think that Peter and Lise were driving and got stopped by the Nazi soldiers and they shot Peter in the arm and took Lise away. How do you think she died? Would you do something dangerous to help your friend if he/she was a Jew at this time?

To Laura at Underhill Elem: We think Peter is in a hurry because they have a curfew in Denmark. So you can't stay out past 8:00pm We also think he doesn't want to stay and talk about Lise. What do you think is going to happen next?

To Laura from Underhill Elem: Our group thinks Peter is always in a rush because: 1. his job 2. relation to Hitler 3. partly Jewish 4.If somebody finds too much out about him something bad will happen 5. he might not be telling the whole story about how Lise died.
There are alot of predictions about this. Write back with your predictions about why Peter is in such a rush?

Would you die for the leader of your country? To me it depends. If they don't do anything, I wouldn't care, but if they were very good at helping out to make the country better, I would make sure nobody could hurt him. He would need to earn my respect. How about you?

To Laura from Underhill Elem: We don't think so, we think he is quiet because he doesn't want to be caught helping the Jews and he is in a hurry because he doesn't want to get caught.

I think that king christian was right to surrender becuase if he did not gigiveup he and all of his pople of denmark could have goten killed. if he he had tride to fight his pople porbably would have token down a few soilders. Hitler probably would have put all of them in concentration camp. And then Hitler would try to harm all of denmark.

Do you think King Christian did the right thing by surrendering to the Nazis? King Christain was right to surrender, beacause if he didn't he would be putting his people in danger. Also if he didn't they would probaly taken one of the Jews and the Jew for a hostage. He made a very wise choice and he obviously cared for his people. I say he was smart beacause a big country vs. a small country. Common sense can tell you that the big country will win. THINK!

Dear Ashley and Spencer,

My friend Cory and I learned about Pearl Harbor this year. We learned that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and that's how our country got involved in the war. You should read Stones in Water by Donna Jo Napoli. Have you read anygood books lately?

This comment is for chapter 2. My teacher asked this question.
Do you think it was wise for King Christian X to surrender?

My answer:
Yes, I think it was a wise choice because all of Denmark would have been defeated. There would be a lot of deaths and it would be worse than it was n the story when we were reading!

I thought in chapter 1 that when Kristi was holding Annemarie's hand that gave Annemarie courage. I thought that was an interesting chapter.

Here is a question for all of you out in siber space! Do you thinw that King Christian X did the right thing in surrenduring to the Nazis ? My groop had continus disagrements about weather dieing for your country is worse than being traped into not being able to believe in what you want to freely. I personaly believe in the mado "give me freedom or give me death"!

We just finished reading chapter 4, and we went the see the play this afternoon. Then we wrote about our favorite part of the play. Some of our favorites were: the part where the soldiers stopped the girls on the street; when the dad told the story about the king of Denmark; when the soldiers knocked on the apartment door in the middle of the night; when Annemarie pretended to be Samuel; at the funeral; when she was running in the woods and ran into the soldier; when she returned the necklace.

The play was fun, but we think the rest of the book will be more exciting. We wish all of you could have seen the play!
