Dear Douglas: I would be part of the Resistance Movemet too because the Nazis are very bad people. They only liked to take peaple's freedom and make the people's lives very bad. The Nazis also took over Denmark and other different countries. The Resistance Movement is a very good plan, and I hope that it would work. So, maybe one day Denmark and the other countries will get their freedom back again. |

To Christian, Neil, Bryan and Lucia: We think she died two weeks before she was going to get married is because maybe a Nazi soldier found out that she was getting married and he might not want her to get married so he drove their car into Lise so she would die. |

We started to read Number the Stars. I think it is going to be fun! We have a lot of questions about the book becuase th ebook took place in Denamrk and the soldiers are standing at the corner! And maybe I can imagine when it looks like in Denmark. And here is a question that came up in reading log. If you are Annemarie what are you going to say to the soldiers? Why did Ellen's mom say to Annemarie not to go the same way to school? Why are they not allowed to have a cupcake? Why are they not allowed to have butter on the bread? That is the questions that we had in our reading logs and community share! I hope I can do it again. |

MESSAGE:
To Ashley A, Garland thinks that he would only die for his country if it was his job.I {Michael} agree with you.If someone was about to get shot, and I was there it would depend who the person was.If the person was a good leader or friend I would save them. Many people die everyday,I (Garland) think that you would not see many people that would die for their country.Only brave people. To Tristan in Jericho, VT : We think that "The Free Danes" is illegal because it says where the German soldiers were going to bomb next. Maybe the people that were not Jews could get killed from keeping them at their house. We think Lise died in a car accident. What do you think? |

To Graham from Smith Elementary, Burlington VT: We also have reasons Peter is in such a hurry. We have figured out that he gives and illegal paper to Mr. & Mrs. Johansen. We think he is in a rush because: 1. his job 2. he's related to Hitler, 3. he's part Jewish or maybe he's in some kind of group. Were not sure, but write back with your ideas on why Peter is in such a rush. Have you wondered why the star of David is a Jewish symbol?. The star of David is the universal sign of Judaism. |
