I think the "Free Danes" is not illegal because if it were the Johansens would not have burn it when they were done with it. I allso think that Lise got taken away but did not die. I would do something dangeris to help a jewish friend at that time because they would not be able to live without them.

This is my first day on the computer. I will be caught up with the reading by tomorrow. So far the book is ok, but I wish that it was more adventerous like Anne Frank was. I think it is interesting that Anne Frank died two weeks before she would have been released from the concentration camp and Anne Marie's older sister, Lise, died two weeks before her wedding.

The way I felt when I read chapter five was scared. I felt that way because the soldiers were searching the Johansen'house, and I was afraid they were going to find Ellen and take her away.I also felt scared when Ellen couldn't take her necklace off.The soldiers were right at the door, and they came in looking in the closet and searching everywhere.I felt scared when one of the soldiers asked why she had brown hair and Kirsti and Annemarie had blond hair. That is why I felt scared while reading chapter five.

When I was reading chapter five I felt that the soldiers were rude for tearing the picture in half then stepping on it.The soldiers should not have came to thier apartment at four in the morning because they had no reason to come to thier apartment in the morning. They should have waited until Annemarie's family woke up the next morning.I think the soldiers wanted to be rude to Annemarie's family for no reason. How did your group feel when they read chapter five?

I felt scared because the Nazis were about to take Ellen away to the relocation and they could've killed her. It would be very bad if Annemarie lost her best friend and they would never see eachother again. Chapter 5 is exciting and serious. What do you think is good in the chapter?

When I started reading chapter 5 I felt excited because I wanted to know what was going to happend next. I thought chapter 5 was good and instering. when the soliders entered their apartment I felt worried because I thought they were going to think that Ellen was really Jewish. I thought they were going to take her away because she was getting supious. I also felt worried because I thought the soliders were going to wake up Kirsti and ask her some quections. I thought Kirsti was going to say that Ellen was pretending to be part of their family.
How did you feel about chapter 5?

But they do come and the two friendsact like sisters
and everything goes a okay except the necklace of Ellen
that Annemarie pulled off Ellens neck and put in her hand.
After the soldiers left Annemarie found out that the star

When I read the 5th chapter I became a little bit scared.
I thought the German's would think Ellen was Jewish and take her away.So I felt she was going to be taken away and the Germans would punish AnneMarie's family for lying to them.I thought her dad was pretty smart to take those 3 pictures and show them to the german soilders,so they would leave! And that's how this chapter made me feel.

My class predicted what we thought chpt. 4 would be about ("It Is Going To Be a Long Night".) I predicted that the soldiers would come to Annemarie's apartment building and take things away from the Jews. I was really close to being right. The soldiers might come but they will arest the Jews instead of taking things from them. Did you predict anything for that chapter? If so, please write something back to me!

Dear Cody S. C.P. Smith Elem. Burlington VT.

I am responding to your question about why the girls cant have cupcakes!
I think that when any war is going on there is a shortage of food supplies,
ecspecialy when the enemy has captured your country. The Germans have probaby either taken the indivishual cupcakes, or made the factorys make products for them. I hope that you have a better idea of why the girls can't have cupcakes now. I am happy to help.

If I was in th book Number The Stars I would have killed both of the German soldiers that came in the house with a knife so no other German soldiers would come in and try to kill us.Another thing I would have done when the 2 Nazi's came in is that I would have tried to talk to them so they will try to kill Hitler and everyone will be treated the same way,and all the Jewish people will get their jobs back ,and there will not be a Nazi standing at every single corner. Another thing is that some of the Nazi's should have to go to the camp to see how it feels to get shot,or get sick, or get poisoned when they take a bath, and they all will get buried with alot of other people. What would you do?

FEELINGS When I was reading "Number the stars"I felt excited because the story is exciting to listen to. When it is time to go some where and we have to stop reading and I just want to kown what is going to happen next.Sometimes the book can be sad and sometime happy. If I was Annemarie's parents,I would be feeling really scared because when the Nazi soliders came in their house. I know the Nazis kind of know Ellen was Jewish. But when the dad showed them that picture I know that she would be ok. Their dad was very smart.Annemarie must have been feeling very scared when the Nazi's came in but she was very brave. I agree! I think Peter has something to do in the Resistance group and so he doesn't want to say the wrong thing to the Johansens, like if
he stays too long and talks he could say he was part of the Resistance group. Peter probably gives the Johansen's the illegal papers so if something bad is going to happen in Copenhagen they can be prepared,
because Peter doesn't want them to get hurt.

I think Annemarie and Kirsti's relationship is realistic because
sometimes I'm playing with a friend and my brother asks if he

Kirsti when she wanted to play dolls too, but Ellen and Annemarie
didn't want her to play with them.
