We just finished reading chapter 7 and I just started feeling really sorry for Ellen if I were in her shoes I would not be as calm and relaxed I think she is doing really well. In chapter 8 Annemarie said that there was no Aunt Birte and that she didn't exist. I agree with Annemarie b/c her Great Aunt Birte had never been mentioned to her, so maybe she doesn't think that she exist.

I think that King Christian did the right thing when he surrendered to the soldiers because if he attempted war Denmark might be destroyed and be totally ruled by the Nazi soldiers.I also think that it was wise of the Danes to destroy their own naval fleet because if the Nazis conquered the Danes then they would take all of their ships and use them against the Danes.That is a huge advantage!

I agree with you about chapter 5 being suspensful. I think the soldier cared that Ellen's hair was black because everybodys hair in the Johansen family was probably some type of blonde and Ellen was the only person there that had black hair. Yes, I did think Annemarie was sad when she saw the imprint of the Star of David on her hand. When the soldiers came didn't you think it was smart of Annemarie to take the Star of David necklace off of Ellen.I did.

To Ashley Y.- I agree that chapter 5 was exciting. I liked the way Annemarie took charge of Ellen when the soldiers came. It was as if she had been planning it for days! For example, as soon as she heard the soldiers, she dived for the bed and took Ellen's nechlace off! I also thought Papa was very clever to have thought of getting the baby photos of Lise, Annemarie, and Kirsti, and how he tore the date off of Lise's photo. For some reason, I feel that the Johansens' did not convince the soldier that Ellen was Lise. I think the soldiers will come back to the apartment again. What do you think?

I personally thought that it was boring, but it also gave me many thoughts about who had died. In the chapter before, chapter 7, when it said that Uncle Henrik wasn't home I thought that he had drowned in the water while either fishing or sialing. It made me even think harder because when I had finished reading chapter 7 the next chapter was called~There has been a death.
