Annemarie is afraid that Kirsti will give away the secret and endanger all of them. I think the Nazis would punish everyone. Do you think Ellen will get away safely? I think it will happen. I think she will!

I have a prediction about why Mama is taking Ellen, Annemarie and Kirsti to Uncle Henriks. I think that Mama is taking them to Uncle Henriks because Ellen's family could already be there. Ellen and her parents could be going to Sweden to be safe.

I think that chapter six was suspensful because it is Ellen's New Year. But I was glad that she didn't say that. And I think Ellen is veryscared because there are Nazis everywhere.

I think that the codes are very clever. This book is exciting because we think Kirsti was just about to tell, but she said, "Look at my new shoes."

To Jesseca from Williamston: I was first confused with cigarettes, but our teacher explained it to us. She said that the word cigarettes was a code name for Ellen. So the soldiers wouldn't know about her being a Rosen.

We totally agree with you!
We think that chapters 7 and 8 where two of the best chapter
in the book.
We liked chapter 7 because they went to uncle Henriks little
old red roofed farm house.
And Annemaries mother remembered her childhood growing up on the
farm.
And chapter 8 was about all the jews that wheir there where saying that they had a great-aunt berti but it wasn't ture.

To Lauren: I think the Nazis were on the train because of the missing Jews (Ellen and Ellen's mom and dad). But I was happy that Kirsti didn't tell the soldiers that it was ellen's New Year then the Nazis would've known that Jews have New Year's (Just like Americans). She just told them about her new black shoes and they were gone. What do you think will happen when they get to Uncle Henrick's house and what's going to happen?

I think that Annemarie's moma and Uncle Henrick is kind of tellling the truth about aunt Birte because all thoses people came to Annemarie's Uncle Henrck's house cring and they might be lying because it is taking them along time to open th casket.I agree with Annemarie, but I agree with moma and Uncle Henrick also.If there is a death in your family would you want to know right away,if you were in Annemarie's shoes what would you do to find out if moma and Uncle Henrick is telling the truth? Why do you think they are not telling Kristi about what's going on?

What is your favorite part in chapter nine(Why are you lying)? Our favorite part is when Annemarie finds out that mama and Uncle Henrik are lying about Aunt Birte because there no Aunt Birte in the first place. They are lying because of Ellen and her parents by putting clothes and blankets in the casket.

We think that the soldiers in chapter 6 were
on the train because they new that some Jews
would try to escape out to another place so
that the German soldiers would not find them
and bring them to the camp.

We think there is something sciencetific, sciencist have made up. We think its a handkerchief that has a smell that makes dogs smells go away. We also think that when soliders and dogs go on the boats the sailors take it out so they won't smell the people trying to get away. What do you think is in the bag?

I think the mood of Chapter 10 is a little suspenseful because when
the soldier came he wanted them to open the casket, and if they would not see a dead person the soldiers would probably arrest all the people and they would think something was fishy.

I think the mood of Chapter 10 is scary, for example when the
soldiers came to the house because everyone was quiet when the soldiers walked into the room. And Annemarie's mother got slapped across the face.
Mama was probably startled and everyone else was probably scared.

I think why Lois Lowry gave Number the Stars its name is because
Annemarie and everyone in the book are probably numbering the days
that the war is going on.

I think that the mood in Chapter 10, "Let Us Open the Casket," is
exciting and suspenseful. I think it's suspenseful because when the
soldiers came you want to read more. It is exciting when the soldier slapped Mama, and the chapter has action.

I think Peter read the psalm in case the soldiers were outside or
I also think for good luck.

My most favorite part is when they were at the ocean because it gave
me so much description that it was too cold to swim in and foggy
so it was hard to see Sweden. Annemarie and Ellen thought there were two girls looking back at them but it was too foggy to see clearly. It made
me feel like I was there.
