My group thinks this book is getting better in chapter 10. When they were going to open the casket we thought that there would be someone in it.In chapter 9 when the guards came to uncle Henrick's and asked about the casket we thought they would stay to see what was inside. My group thinks that the other people in the room were jewish too and Peter is helping them to go to Sweden.

While I was reading the book I thought of a time that I felt like Annemarie when she couldn't find Mama.
One night my dad went to pick up my brother from a friends house and it was just my sister, my mom and me. My sister got in the shower and my mom went on a walk. Either she walks really slow or she stopped somewhere but it took her a long long time. Well anyways I began to get worried because by this time it was really dark. I didn't know what had happened to her and so I started to cry. Luckily I looked out the window and my mom was on the front proch stretching out her legs so she wouldn't get a cramp. Was there every a time that you felt scared because you couldn't find a loved one?

Also the aferword gave good info to the story that you need to know to fully understand the book. This book reminds me of the time I had a tornado and I had to go in my basement. I like the history stuff in the Afterword chapter. I thought that everything was real. I didn't know that everything was real except for the characters. My teacher, Mrs.Rothe, told our class that it is called Historical fiction. I liked how she put Annemarie's family in an apartment building that she had actually been to! I think it would be cool if she forgot to put in the Nazis! This kind of compares to when the British made the Americans pay taxes which started the Revolutionary War. As I read "Number the Stars", I compared my friend Anju to the characters. She is a lot like Ellen. They are both kind, shy, and are good friends. Also I compared my friend, Kristin, to Annemarie. They both are kind, they stick up for their friends, and they both love to run! I am a lot like Ellen because we are both very shy and we are both only children. I compared my dog to Thor and they were a lot alike. They are both very playful and they both love to get attention. I think my mom is a lot like Mrs. Johansen because they both are helpful and they care about people in need. I have really enjoyed this book and I am sad that I am finished. I think this book was great. After i read it i thought of connections that connect to my life. One thing i would connect is Kirsti and my little sister Katie she is 7 years old right now and I'm 11. I agree with
Anemarie that Kirsti gets her way about everything. My little sister get her way about everything and wines all the time. Another connection i would make is at the begin is when annemarie and ellen got stoped by a german soldier and was scared and did not know exactly what to say. Iwould connect that to me because one time i was with my middle sister(she is very nice)and we were riding our bikes to the park when a police stop and asked us where we were going. My sister looked at me with a scared look, then i answered the police and saidwe are going to the park he said fine and rolled up his window and fastly drove off. We were not in trouble but did not know wether not to tell the truth or not we told the truth like Annemarie did. Do you have anny conection to this story?

To all the people who are perticipating in this activity. I thought that this book was the best novel i have read this year with my class. Well when annemarie had to help ellen get to sweeden I remembered when my best friend and I were riding bikes at my house and we were going really fast and she went up the drive way and my dad's car was parked at the very end. She got stuck in the crack between the grass and the drive way and she kind of hit my dad's car with the handle bar and made a microscopic mark. Then i came speeding over to see what happened I tried to stop but my brakes don't work well so I went smashing into his car and i hit the front bar by his back lights and it made a big mark. I was so scared that he would be mad. WE told him what happend and i stood up to lindsay and she stood up for me. It kind of connects how Ellen always stood up for Annemarie and ANnemarie always stood up for Ellen. I enjoyed hearing your comments and I hope we might be able to talk next year.

Dear ?
I just finished the book and it was great.I won't spoil the ending for you so don't worry be happy! When I read the part where Lise dies I could make a connection. About a month ago my grandfather died. He was very close to me and he was my best friend. when I heard the news that my grandfather had died early that morning I decied that I wanted to die to. He was very close to me and I keep a box of memories in my tresure chest in my closet. I can imagin how Annemarie felt when she was told that Lise had died. My grandmother is still alive and she is doing well but ever since my grandfather died she isn't as colorful as she used to be. She only wears black and white and not red, orange, yellow, green, blue,or purple. As I said before she only wears black and white and she looks pretty boring and dull.I'm still thinking of a way to get the "color" back in her.
I won't be writing back.

And that ain't no lie,baby, BYE-BYE-BYE!!!
