Hi! I really love this book. The toad is really cool! I just thought of an idea: In chap. 6, when they "KIDNAP" Winnie, the stranger sees them. Mae said they were teaching their daughter how to ride a horse, but the stranger knows Winnie ISN'T her daughter;he knows she is Winnie FOSTER, not TUCK. I also think the stranger is looking for the Tuck's. Now he REALLY knows something is up. PLEASE, PLEASE respond to me if u agree or if u have anything to say to me!!!!! I'd really appreciate it! Dear Shante',
I agree with you!!!!! The way she expresses her feelings, I think, is very different! I think she won't tell her family because that's who she is running away from and toads can't tell anyone! She also wants it to be kept a secret, and doesn't know if she will actually run away. She doesn't want her family to say "I TOLD U SO" when she doesn't run away, if she doesn't. Please respond to one of my messages! ~ Lauren D. ~

We think this book is really good so far. It is so interesting that the Tuck's have remained the same for 87 years!!!!! We are wondering why the Tuck's took Winnie away, and what do they have to tell her? Why is it important that Winnie and the Tuck's become friends? I think that the water is the reason that the Tuck's are the same for 87 years. The stranger is probably looking for the Tucks because of their secret.

We think that the elf music(the music box) is very important to the story. Why did the Tuck's want to hide the stream from everyone? What do you think would happen if people like us found the stream in the wood? Natalie Babbit is a very good writer. She writes very good stories! This is one of our favorite books.
