MESSAGE:
What's up! This is Lee again. To:Deepa S. We just finished reading chapter 7. Byron deserved to get all his hair cut off. Are there any of your classmates reading this book? Joey loves her brother, Bryon so much that she can't stand to see him get hurt. I don't think she will stick up for him any more, because she knows he keeps disobeying their parents. I think Byron's grandmother is going to have Bryon in check.
Hello Branden B. I think Buphead will be hoping up and down. He will be able
to tease the new kids for himself. He tinks he's going to have a lot of fun.

MESSAGE:
I am responding to Diana I couldn't write because Miss Bronson was not here and I couldn't read chapter 8 or 9 . I am Africa Amercan, spanish, French, and Indian. I know thats alot . But in chapter 6 By didnt have to curse Kenny out like that. By didn't have to take over his self to buy those cookies and put it on his parents list. I think every time some one says something that he dosen't like he goes off on them. Do you have a bigger sister or brother ? If you do how do they treat you? I am the oldest so my sister does every thing I tell her to do. In chapter 7 By deserved to get his hair shaved off. Diana By got a perm he didn,t get his hair dyed. Have you did any thing you wasn't supossed to do? I have I cut my hair. I was wondering do you want to be book buddies? For my respond to my group I said I think the author has a good book but he needs to take out the cursing. Alyssa thanks for writing I hope that you are enjoying this book as much as I am. Please write back to me because I havent hared from you. (Diana has responded to this message.) |

MESSAGE:
This is Markita I am going to put both of my responses up. I'm going to do this because our teacher is kind of sick. We are lucky to have Ms.Hudson to watch us. If it wasn't for her we would be even farther behind. Now here goes my response. I just finished reading 6 and 7. In chapter 6 I personally think that the cursing was uncalled for. Don't the publishers know that young children are reading this book. i also think that By shouldn't have charged them cookies. I have one more thing to say about chapter six. I think Byron vomitted because he seen that dead bird. like they said in the book he did dig up a gravefor the grave. Now I'm going to tell you what I thought about chapter 7. I am curious about why they call it a butter and not a perm. I am also curious how he looked with the perm.. I bet he looked pretty funny with a big shiny Milk Dud looking head with ears sticking out. N-E -Ways if you are reading this Minal S. and Deepa S. are readin this I wanted to response to you but it was too late. I also forgot what to say. |

MESSAGE:
Hello people! I didn't receive any mail to day so answer soon. I am dying for mail. Chapter nine was funny, but not as funny as most of the other chapters. In this chapter, they finally start their trip to Birmingham. Momma has organized every minute of their trip: bathrooms, lunch, bedtime, games, dinner, EVERYTHING! Byron is not happy as you might have guessed. The night before they started their trip, Byron had planned to escape, but Joetta had tattled because she knew that Byron would be in more trouble if he escaped. He also made a promise, and it was stupid. Read on to find out. Bye! |

MESSAGE:
I feel sorry for the Watsons, they have to take that long trip. Usually when my famialy has to go on a trip that long we fly in a plane. Maybe this will be better for Byron. Maybe know he can stay out of trouble. Momma planned the directions real specific. She had things like how long the bridge was and how many people died building it. It seems like Kenny is the only one that is realexcited about the trip. (Lee has responded to this message.) |

MESSAGE:
Hey, what'z up! NOBODY wrote back? Why not? N-E-Wayz, I think that in chapter 9, his mom is really crazy. I am orginized, but not that organized! I don't plan when everyone has to go to the bathroom, when to eat, who eats what! Boy, that is absolutely crazy! I think that Joey should paint the angel brown, since it is white! If I was black, and somebody gave me a white angel, I would be soooo mad at them. The thought would be nice, and everything, but still they should have thought about it. Byron is just plaine retarded. I mean, who promises their best friend(Buphead) that they were never ever going to talk during the trip! Three days! Then he goes and breaks the promise! That liar! It's bad enought that he makes a stupid promise like that, but when he breaks it, that's just wrong! Well, I have to go now! Bye! WBS (write back soon) Deepa! |

Hi! I think that Joey is wrong. She should be happy that someone gave her something at all. How is Mrs. What's-her-name supposed to get an angel that looked just like Joey? Imean it's nice that she said that Joey looked like an angel, but that angel didn'tlooklike her. What an idiot! |

FROM: Cyrene G. Grade 6 Klentzman Intermediate Houston, TX |
MESSAGE:
I think that Kenny won't like the South, because of the way I predict he is going to be treated. In Flint, Michigan he is already being teased for little things, like his lazy eye. If he is teased in Michigan, where segregation isn't a severe problem, he is going to be teased and treated unfairly in the South, too. He will probably be more mistreated and teased in the South rather than in Flint where life is much easier for blacks. I think that Kenny and Byron will find out what it feels like to be new in a place, and they are going to find out what it feels like to be teased, and Byron won't be much of a bully in the South anymore because he is black. I think that blacks in the South should get equal tratment. That's what most people think now, but I really do wonder why they didn't think that way back when segregation was one of the major problems. If I were Kenny and if I did get mistreated, I would tell my parents about it, and they would probably want to go back to Flint. I think that Kenny will find out that even through the cold winters and the teasing in Michigan, it would be better to stay than to be treated horribly in the South. Hey, Kenny might even like it in the South and maybe segregation won't be a problem where he is going to, but I personally think that's not going to happen, and that life won't be easy for Kenny in the South. What do you think Kenny will feel like when they get to Birmingham? |
