We talked about the connections that we have with the characters. One connection that we had with the characters where the connection between Byron and Kenny. The people in my group have brothers and sister and pick on them but not as Byron does to Kenny. |

I think Byron should have told the story of frozen died people because even though it wasn't true it is going to keep Kenny & Joey from getting sick. So I think By had a good reason to tell. If Momma, Keeny, and joey find out, shes probebley going to go wild. But also will lose faith and trust in Byron. |

MESSAGE:
I don't think it was right for Byron to tell Joey a lie like that in [Ch.4]. I think she looks up to By and when she finds out she will lose trust in Byron. When a little kid loses trust in someone it's hard to win that trust back, and if Byron lies to her anymore and she finds out she might not forgive him for a while. |

MESSAGE:
I dont think that it was bad that he told the story about the southern folks. That was mean and was not nice to lie to them. The good thing about that lie is that they learn to keep on warm clotes. I think Byron needs to stop teasing and start helping them out. He could have just stuck up for his little brother and sister. It was nice that he told the lie because he helped his mom and she neededthe help so they will stay warm. |

In chapter three kenny shares his lunch with the two new students. Did you think that was a nice thing to do? i thought that it was a very nice thing to do.Has anyone ever done that for you before? Do you think that kenny was a friendly person? I thought that he was because he shares his lunch with the new students. He shared one of his gloves with rufus. I thought that was being a great friend. Then when kenny and rufus got in to a fight he tried to make things right. Rufus didnt want to make things better. So kennys mom talked to rufus.Has any thing like that ever happen to you |

Dear Ellie from MI, I didn't think it was necessay for Byron to beat up Larry Dunn. Even though larry beats people up all the time. I do think that Larry needs to be taught a lesson, but maybe not with fists. Kenny and Rufus should get together and trick Larry into doing something really stupid. bye |

Dear Nicole M. I think that the bigger kids just tease and beat up new kids. When new kids come, they forget about the old and pick on the new. I reminds me about a star trek episode, where there was a prison in space. And whenever a new prisoner came, they would beat him up. |

There is about 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. It is so cold that you can leave your food out in the garage and it will still stay frozen. Here everyone doesnt talk with an accent like everyone ther edoes. Would you rather not have an accnet or do you like thle fact that you do? |

Dear Stephanie, I don't think Byron would really need Kenny to stick up for him, because By is the biggest and most popular kid in the school. I don't think they would tease byron or kenny if he's around byron, because they would be afraid of getting beat up. |

Dear Pete Well, do you ever get snow? Cause right now it is snowing. It gets so cold here, once we had snow in November! Alot of times we get snow days in Wisconsin. This year been a little wacky. No snows days yet. You have to admit though you are lucky to have warm weather. Right now I have to were a sweater a big warm coat a thing for my ears and big mittins! Why if that thing with the southern people getting frozen is true. Then if someone from Texas came here they would freeze up! I hope that answered your question. Cause gosh it gets cold. Well, the thing about accents is that everyone has an accent. Why New Yorkers have accents Illinoss people have accents but where you are everyone sounds normel. Hey what is your favorite accent? Mine is British. -Danielle L |

Dear Pete, Up here in Wisconsin it gets pretty cold. Sometimes it gets so cold people can keep their frozen foods in the garage and it'll stay frozen. Oops! I just accidently sent this message without finishing it. But, most of the time in Jan. the weather gets into the negatives. Basically to understand how cold it gets you'd need to stand in a freezer for a couple of hours, then you'll know how it is at 30 degrees. bye |

I think this is a good book, for a fictional book. I would like to read on and finish the book. I do not like the way mamma punished Byron, t oday it woluld be illegal to treat your kids like that. One thing I thought was ironic was that Byron is usually 'Mr. Cool', yet he cried like a baby when his mom held a match to his finger. How do you feel about Mamma's way of punishing Byron? |

Hello everybody out there! In chapter 4, Larry Dunn deserved to be beaten up by Byron because he always picks on people. Violence is not always the answer but in this case he needed it. Another way it could have been handled is being like adults and talking it out. Maybe they could have talked it out by giving Byron Kenny's glove so there is no disturbance. |

I read the WATSONS book for Battle of the Books 1998-1999 and I think it is really good. I like the chapter "Nazi Prachutes Attack America and get Shot Down over the Flint River by Capton Byron Watson". I think it is funny how he flushes the "Nazi" down the toilet.

I thought that the book was an exellent story of how life was like in the 60's. Reading it for my third time I notice things that I never thought about before. I like how you can see the change in Byron at the end of the book. The book talks about normal day problems but shows how weirdly the Watsons solve these problems. It is a great read and I am still enjoying it my third time around. |

In chapter 3 the one thing that really made me laugh was when Rufus checked his underwear. Because it's not everyday you see or hear someone checking their underwear in a school bus! I think Cody and ufus would be great at Herod because it's kids like them who put influences on other kids and make them relize there not very different from each other. |
