So far in chapter one Christopher Paul Curtis made the story funnny at times and sometimes not so funny. I think the funniest part in the first chapter was the part when Byron got his lips stuck to the mirrior and the father thought it was funny.

When Byron kept asking Kenny to help him, I thought that he was going to do something mean to Kenny. It was kind of funny when you heard that Byron was crying, he seemed so tough! The father was very funny. I think that the mother was a little bit more serious,but more concerned with her children. By the way the author told about each character, I could really get a clear picture in my head. When the mother told everyone to go inside I did not think that she would rip his lips of the mirror. I really like this book.

We felt the humorous situations drew us deeper into the book and helped us relate to the characters. A few examples we liked were: the situation with Bryon getting his lips stuck, Mr. Watson's description of Hambone Henderson, and Mr. Watson's ability to tease. Our class thought you used two different approaches to creating humor in the story. The first, technique was to make light of various situations. The second technique involved the dialect. Special emphasis seem to be placed on Mrs. Watson's parts. Her southern twang and her comments gave the story a humorous tone. He deserved it though. After what he did to his brother, he should get his lips stuck. When he started yelling he sounded funny. I could laugh my head off, especially when his mom pulled him and the car apart. I would have screamed my head off. That would hurt. I really don't think that the Watson's are weird, I mean, a lot of people have that kind of brother, brother relationship. Byron was a little weird but, lots of guys must adore themselves by the way they act. So there is nothing really weird about them. One conflict is when Byron gets his lips stuck. But, he got them off, he's lucky. He could have been frozen there for quite a while. Some more conflicts will probably be about moving and the boys fighting again. By the way they act, you know something has to happen.

Grade 5 Pattison Elementary Katy, TX	To: Brandy Yes I thought that he did this on purpose because he did not want to clean the Brown Bomber because he thought he was all that and make Kenny do it because was older than kenny.When he got his lips stuck on the car he would sound like he wanted to pull a trick on Kenny and everyone else,but after kenny found out that Byron wasn't lying about his lips were stuck on the car his Dad and Mom thought it was funny. But I didn't feel sorry for Byron getting his tonge stuck on the mirror. He lives in Michigan he should know not to do that, some one that lives in the south might not know that.

I think that this book will be really good through the rest of it. I read Bud Not Buddy another one of Christopher Paul Curtis's books. That has been my favorite book since I was in Kindergarten. This author seems really good.
