Hi Hannah,

I think that is a good point, it seems like people are always too ready to call someone different from them "Weird."

Wow! I think Byron just got really scared whwn he thought he was going to lose his brother. It didn't take long for him to become Daddy Cool again.

I think every African American person in the country has experienced prejudice of some type. But that isn't the reason I wrote the book. Prejudice and bigotry are just a part of life as the Watsons lived it.

I find ideas everywhere, authors have to be good observers so I've got my radar on all of the time.

My wife was the inspiration for my writing.

Thank you very much! Yes, my family was involved in several protests in Flint in the 60's.
Just like you I was shocked.

I love writing so I try to do it all of the time, and, yes, the bombing made me very sad.

My favorite character would probably be Joey,or Kenny.I like those two because they are the two nicest kids we have read about so far,I think.I think that Joey was really brave because she kept blowing out the fire. But I am so surprised that Kenny did not do anything about Joey being in the way or Byron getting burned.Write back.

Where you feeling bad for Byron when mama was going to burn his finger? I was not because he deserved it because mama gave him a warning. He should have thought about it better. That is my opinion so please write yours and write back!!!

I thought it was kind of wierd how Byron gave the bird he hit a funeral.I thought he would just act all tough and leave the bird there. What do you think he would do?

I do think it was acceptable to burn Byron's finger because she already gave him a warning but he did not obey it!He pushed it and pushed it and she was sick of giving him warnings, so just did it!

Could you not ruin the ending of this story for the people that haven't read ahead? I now know what happens in chapters 11, 12, 13,and 14. Now this story doesn't seem as interesting. I really don't want to know the whole story (What we weren't assigned), just by looking at what has been posted. Please, don't spoil this story, or any other story that we do on this club. It is a lot more fun if we work through the book together. ~Thanks~

Dear Mr. Curtis:

Did you pattern of any of the characters on yourself or anybody you knew? Growing up, was life in Flint -- and in your school like what you described in the book? Were your mom or dad from Alabama? Are some of the events in the book things that really happened your life in Flint?

Dear Mr.Curtis,

Hi..I was wondering if you had any experiences in real life like happened in the story? Has there been a new person in your life that you wrote about? Has that person ever been treated badly or made fun of? If there is or ever was a person that you had known that was made fun of, please write me back, and tell me if the story was about him or your personal experiences. Thank you.

I agree with you Madison that people should not send messages that contain information on later chapters. If anyone else agrees please type me a message. Anyways I think we should read the book at the same rate.

I think out of the first two chapters the first one is funnier because Byron was trying to kiss his reflction because he thought he was beautiful and he got his lips stuck.

I think By is lying about the frozen people thrown in the garbage truck. The reason I say he's lying is that before By told them that story Kenny was whining about his sister crying and whining in the morning. And right after that, one of them sayd they needed to tell her something to make her stop crying in the morning.

I like the part when Kenney went to Rufus house to make up for what he had did to him on the bus and then Rufus said I do not whant to play with you any more because you made fun of me on the bus. I also like when mama said give him some time because that would let him give Rufus time to think so he can think of the right thing to do.
