The most sadess part of the story in my oppion was when the Tucks found the monument of winnie. I think that it was sad because Jesse wanted to have her drink the spring water when she was 17 so they can be soul-mates. I think if there is a sequal to this book Jesse will be
devastated. He will be devastated because she didn't drink the water and mostly that she was dead because he had strong feelings for her.

Out of a one to ten scale. Ten being the best I would rate this book a full ten! Again this book is tence, mind racing, excellent, and a very good family book. I would recommend book to anyone!!!

These three books are some of the best fantasy I've read yet. The author makes you feel like you are right there with the charecters. The main characters, Caitlan, and Bdger are so well developed and detailed. I love how Downer leads on the suspense.
Caitlan: Caitlan is a young girl who was raised by an old woman named Abagtha. She lives in a forest called Weirdwood. Caitlan is accused of being a witch and is sent to live with nuns.
Bdger: Badger was raised in a church to become a monk, although he had no desire to do so. As a last reort he is told he must escort a witch to a church.
Along the way the two become friends and find out that they are being followed by a murderer. Later, they end up on an Island called Chameol, but I won't tell you how!

The books are The Spellkey, The Glass Slamander,and The Book of the Keepers. There is a litle bit of romance in theese books but nothing inappropreate for young readers.

Later in the book, Ramo is killed by the wild dogs. Karana befriends the leader and names him Rontu, which in her language means Fox Eyes.

She stays on the island alone for 18 or so years when her people come to rescue her.

This is a great book. It is written by Scott O'Dell. When he died, he asked to be cremated and wanted his ashes sprinkled in the sea. His family did this, and as they returned to shore, dolphins followed them the whole way. This is extremly ironic because in the book, when Karana attempts to leave the island, dolphins guide her home without the leak in the boat growing any larger. She also said, "It was the dolphins that showed me the way."

Five Quarters of the Orange is a gripping account of a nine year olds betrayal, loves and most of all losses. Set in a small French village, deep in the heart of the Loire Valley, this book enchants the reader as a complex plot digs deeper into the past, with a surprising yet sad ending. Now an elderly lady Framboise Dartigen unfolds her childhood weaving in and out of the past and present day. Wartime memories and the movement the great fish ‘Old Mother’, who will grant you a wish if caught, with the smells of oranges and French delicacies soak through the pages coming to life.

The genre of this book is autobiographical, as it is Framboise telling her story. It could also be classed as wartime fiction and is written in quite an old-fashioned way, with ‘a strong narrative voice, fully rounded characters, a complex plot and even a moral’ as reviewed by the Daily Telegraph. Although Framboise’s past could be classed as wartime fiction, when Framboise talks of the present day it could be classed as modern day fiction; meaning that as this story has two plots to it, it is both wartime and modern day fiction.

The exposition is vital to the story, describing and introducing characters, setting scenes and really helping the reader to begin asking questions about what the future may hold for these characters. Framboise begins with introducing herself, a sixty-five year old widow who has moved back to her childhood village, Les Laveuses. She introduces her family with implicit description, meaning she implies about their characters by describing things they may have done. We meet her sister Reine-Claude, once a beautiful young girl, now sad and mentally ill in a nursing home. We also meet her brother, Cassis, soft in his old age with an arrogant son and daughter-in-law. Framboise introduces her own daughters and grandchildren. We also meet Framboise’s mother, a sly women who secretly holds a soft heart within her bitterness. When Framboise’s mother died she left her an old album containing jottings, recipes, newspaper cuttings, in no particular order, with no dates marked. This album later becomes a key source to help Framboise look back and piece together her past.

Already we ask questions about Framboise’s past; as with a changed name she writes ‘no-one would think to link me with the Dartigen family, who left in the wake of that dreadful business’ At this point we can clearly see the story splitting in half, two plots running parallel throughout, linking Framboise’s past with her new life in the café, whilst being forced into selling her Mothers recipes.

The exposition ends and begins to split when we are faced with the problem in Framboise’s present life. An article written on Framboises café nearly reveals her identity followed by proposals to sell her Mothers recipes. This complication is followed throughout the plot of the present day, which makes this single-layered.

Plot two, Framboises past begins with the death of her Father and of her Mothers dreadful migraines, cured purely by a large dosage of morphine. The migraines bought on by the strong, distinctive smell of oranges. This complication allows Framboise, Reine-Claude and Cassis to explore the Loire and its deep secrets.

Complication two begins with the myth of ‘Old Mother’, said to give you bad luck if you see her, but if caught she has to grant you a wish. Mesmerised by this story Framboise sets out to catch her.

Complication three is much worse, making the story more ‘page-turning’ and introducing a main character Tomas Leibniz, a young German soldier who becomes friends with Framboise, Reine-Claude and Cassis. At the time Framboise writes about, Germany were occupying parts of France. Framboise and her siblings find themselves, as innocent children, in the middle of what was called the ‘the black market’ at that time; feeding information to the Germans about their village, betraying neighbours and friends all in exchange for chocolate and other exciting gifts.

As the children dig themselves deeper into trouble and build stronger friendships with the Germans, feeding them information, their once innocent exchanges become quite serious. As Framboise finds herself getting a crush on Tomas Leibniz and having strong feelings for him she becomes confused at such a young, vulnerable age.

Next the children become witnesses to some dreadful business that takes place at local ‘la Rep’ café, a main place for exchanges on the black market to take place. This causes the French to fall out with the German soldiers. The black market and dealings begin to collapse and for some time Framboise, Reine-Claude and Cassis don’t see Tomas Leibnez.

This is where the story twists and becomes complicated, leading us on ‘red-herrings’. Framboise finally catches ‘Old Mother’, but this leads to the death of Tomas Leibnez. Sadly he is dragged under the murky depths of the Loire and drowns pulling free the trap containing ‘Old Mother’. In shock and anguish Framboise and her siblings drag Tomas’ body from the Loire, shoot him, throwing his body back into the Loire making it look like the French resistance had shot him. They bundle his clothes together and discard of them down the well.

A Few days later Tomas’ body is discovered and traced back to the French people at the ‘la rep’ at the night when the Germans and French fell out. The German SS are called round and the ten French people at the ‘la rep’ on the night of the incident are blamed for Tomas’ death and shot.

At this point I think we get the crisis. A short passage portrays the shock of village people and the guilt of Framboise, Reine-Claude and Cassis ‘Paul came to tell us. His face was pale and blotchy, one prominent vein standing out of his forehead as he told us in a voice which was one long stammer. We listened in appalled silence, benumbed, wondering, perhaps, how it could have come to this, how such a small seed as ours could have blossomed into this bloody flower.’

Here we find another, yet the final twist to the story. Framboise’s mother has been having an affair with Tomas Leibnez, which only becomes clear at the end of the book. Sections of her old album explain how confused, as she is high on morphine, Framboise’s mother discovers Tomas’ clothes at the bottom of well. She concludes that she has killed Tomas whilst high on morphine and confesses this to the village, although she did not kill him.

Obviously the village people are distraught by this, as ten people have died because, what they thought, Framboises mother. They set about taunting the Dartigen family and driving them out their own home in amongst calling the family names and burning their house down.

The story ends with Framboise confessing this and coming out about her identity to an old childhood friend, Paul. I would say this is a happy, yet slightly sad ending. Sad in a way that Framboise has kept her feelings and childhood memories locked up, but then finally she is given a key and opens up her heart.

This book was a challenging read for me as described by the publishers weekly as a ‘complicated but beautiful tale’. Vivid descriptions of the French countryside and emotions pull you into the story, as Joanne Harris tantalizes you right to the end. An unexpected ending and twists of betrayal keeps you turning the pages up until the very end and still staying with you long after you’ve finished reading. I think the story is so good because of all these complications and twists, making it more exciting and mysterious.

Also a piece of writing I did at school. The teacher also graded me very high! The reason im posting this is that in future years I want to become an authour and love to write. I have been told I have a talent!!!!!!!!!!

The theme fits in brilliantly with the language style. The author, Anne Fine uses a colloquial, relaxed tone throughout the story. This is shown on page 43 of goggle eyes where Kitty writes ‘op, plop. Pass the mop. I’d pluck at Mum’s skirt to make it perfectly clear that I was talking to her and not him’ .This helps the reader feel as though she is talking directly to them, but in a way that a friend or person of the same age would. By doing this Anne Fine almost is earning trust and friendship of the reader. Whilst reading the story you feel as though Kitty is a friend discussing her feelings with you. Anne Fine also creates this sense of friendship by using a very personal style; she uses phrases which are common within teenage conversations. This is shown on page 20 when Kitty imagines Gerald Faulkner ‘maybe he had false teeth and sagging skin and tufts of grey hair sticking out his ears’

Anne Fine creates this sense of friendship for a very clever but excellent reason that is quite hidden from the reader. By creating this connection with the reader anyone going through a similar situation as Kitty will listen a lot more than if it was an adult speaking directly to them about the problem. Instead of an adult saying ‘I know what you’re going through’, when really they have no idea; this story actually gives them a friend who is going through the same things as them. It makes the reader feel not alone.

The story also adds humour which lightens up the reader and helps them to understand that there is a silver lining to everything! It may even cheer them up after a hard day. Humour is shown on page 47 when Gerald Faulkner describes Kitty’s room as being a ‘designer compost heap’

As I think more in depth about the connection of the theme of trying to help teenagers and the language techniques I realise that they are dependent on one another. Anne Fine has made the theme work throughout but without making her aim obvious, she uses a subtle tone. I believe that this is the reason the story works so well!

I wrote this piece of writing for an english essay, my teacher was very impressed!

The most inportent thing i lerned from this bad comony corops good morals.

A basic summary of the book would basically be...One day this female (about in her 20's whose name will never be mentioned) meets this rich man,Mr. Maximillan de Winter, while in Monte Carlo, France with her rude obnoxious employer Mrs. Van Hopper. Well this girl (who also happens to be the teller of the story) and Mr. de Winter get to know each other over a few days and he proposes to her and of course she says yes, so they go back to his house, Manderly, to live where the story teller has to go agianst Ms. Danvers (the evil house maid who doesnt like her) the ghost of the first Mrs. Maximillan de Winter, but there is a BIG I MEAN REALLY BIG twist almost at the end of the story when everything gets interesting! I would recomend it t anybody who wants to read it. I hope somebody is reading THIS!

I love this book and the two before it. I love it because the characters are witches and wizards that call normal people “Muggles”. It is imaginative and funny. The setting in a giant castle that has talking pictures and a dinner hall whose sealing copies the sky outside I think is funny and mysterious. When Harry gets a map that shows where people are in the castle is just plain weird to me. I think you have to be 8 and up to enjoy this series of books. This Harry Potter book and the others in its series by J.K. Rowling are wonderful.

Hello my name is Jordan Hansen. I read the book hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and I really enjoyed reading hatchet. I have read most of the Gary Paulsen books. I think Gary Paulsen is an extraordinary writer.
The setting of this story is in the Canadian wilderness. When brain is going to go and see his dad, the pilot has a heart attack while flying. Brian does not know how to do C.P.R so he grabs the transmitter and tries to call for help. He hears somebody on the other end and tell him his situation, but then all of a sudden he only heard static. He is forced to fly the plane. He is very scared. Now Brian is flying the plane by himself he does ok, but then the engine dies and he does not know what to do. Before he had seen a lot of lakes but now he does not see any. He then spots an L shaped lake. He knows he has to land in it, because the trees would kill him. At that moment he dives down and crashes in the lake. He barely survives by breaking the glass out of the front of the plane. He reaches shore with some cuts. Now Brian has to survive in the wilderness. Will he survive?
If I had to rate this book on a 1 to ten scale, I would rate it a 9. This book had me staying up late at night to read it. I would recommend this book for ages 6 and up because little kids may not understand some things.
Gary Paulsen described thing really well. I could visualize all the characters. I don’t think Gary Paulsen needs to change anything in hatchet. I understood everything.

This is one of many masterpieces Stephen King has written. His stories are filled with mystery, suspense, horror, thrills, chills, and sometimes even unexpected frights. Some of his other books are: Rose Red, The Green Mile, It, Pet Semetary, and Riding The Bullet. Out of those which I have read so far this one is the most compelling. The only way you will like any of Stephen King's book is if you read books by Sue Garfton or Anne Rice or if you like books that leave you wondering what will happen next, why something happened, or how it happened then you will like many of his books.

Maniac Magee is very good. I will tell you some of the story.
Maniac wasn’t born with the name Maniac. His real name is Jeffery. His parents died in a car crash. He lived with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan.
One day Maniac had a singing program. He didn’t want to sing in front of his aunt and uncle. He talked, and talked, and talked. Maniac never came back again.
Three days had past. He ran on every block in the steets. He met Amanda. Amanda asked Maniac to come over to her house. Amanda’s dad dropped off Maniac. Maniac said,” I have no home”. Maniac lived at Amanda’s house. Five days later, Maniac ran away and he went to the zoo. Grayson saw Maniac. Maniac saw Grayson. Grayson said, “What are you doing in the zoo”? “I live here “, said Maniac. Grayson was so kind that Maniac could live with him. Five days after Christmas Grayson died. Maniac ran away again. So, he would not think about the good memories that Grayson and he had together. He went to a cabin and lived there. Then he saw two boys.
I’m not going to tell the end. You must read it!

I don’t know about you, but I think Maniac Magee is a very good book.It’s about a kid whose parents died. When he found out, he had to go and live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan. Jeffrey Lionel Magee was his name, living with his aunt and uncle. Who on the other hand hated each other. They hated each other so much that they had two of everything in the house. Two ice boxes,two bedrooms, well gosh. They even shared time with Jeffrey and had certain
specials on certain days. One day , on Jeffery’s school play he saw his aunt and uncle. Not sitting together, but far apart. This drove Jeffrey crazy. It drove him so crazy that he screamed at the top of his lungs. At first the grown ups thought that it was part of the play,but when they saw all of the kids staring at him they knew it was not part of the play and they were all in shock. Then Jeffrey jumped off of the stands and ran out of the building.

Maniac Magee is about a boy who runs away from his aunt and uncle. He is Jeffrey Magee. He found a family who would care for him. Then he ran away from them and met an old man named Grayson.
I think Jerry Spinelli wanted people to know how much prejudice was against Maniac because he was the only white person in the East End. He also wanted to teach people about prejudice.
I liked the book because it has a lot of sports and it is a good book for anyone black or white.

The book Maniac Magee was a great book, it told a lot about responsibility. His mom and dad die in a car accident and then he has to live with his aunt and uncle but his aunt doesen’t get along with his uncle at all.Then at one of his school plays his aunt sat on one side of the theater and his uncle on the other side. During the song he yells talk! talk! but people think its part of the play so Maniac runs out of the school and goes by himself.
Then he meets a guy named Grayson but one day he died so he lives by himself again.It also is a exiting book because Maniac hits a pitch from John McNab. Catches a football in a varsity football game ands runs it all the way down to the other football
goal line then kicks it back.Its a very good book.It may be sad but it’s still a good book.

Maniac Magee was a pretty good book. It was about a boy whose parents were killed in a trolley accident. He was suppose to go live with his aunt and uncle, but he didn’t . He ran away and he went and lived in a bison pen. Then he went to the east end and then he lived with the Beales. After a while the Beales got teased because they had a white person living in the east end instead of the west end where he is supposed to live. Then one day a old man told Maniac to go back to his own kind, then he left. His name was Grayson. Then Maniac was living with him. He went places with him and then one day Grayson didn’t get out of bed and then he noticed that Grayson had died. Then he went roaming around and he found Amanda again and she said come live with me. He said yes to Amanda. I would recommend this book because it is a learning book about diversity and it is a exciting book for kids and adults. Diversity is people that have different skin colors and they have different religion and different things they do.

Maniac ran away at the beginning of the story he ran a state (they said) and found a town. It was divided into two. Half for whites and half for black men. Then he starts to go with the Beales family. At first it works out until he starts making trouble. One day they all started yelling for him to go to his normal home. The rest you’ll have to find out. But I still recommend for you not to read Maniac Magee. Bye

I like this book. It’s like a bunch of confusing stories put together. Because the beginning you don’t know what’s happening. It doesn’t make since, but it is funny, sad, and gross at the same time. Because in one sentence you’re laughing, then you’re practically to tears in the next one.
I highly advise you to read this book. In the book MM (Maniac Magee) goes everywhere!
He sometimes slept at the zoo, but he went to live with Amanda Beale who lends Maniac a book the read earlier in the story.
But the Beales get tortured because of Maniac and he left town next.

I am writing to you about the book Maniac Magee. Well, it was a very great book. At first I thought it was going to be a bad book cause it did not make sense, I was so wrong. The book was about a boy named Maniac Magee. His parents that died in a trolley crash and he had to go live with his aunt and uncle that did not talk to each other. His aunt and uncle had two of everything. Two TV’s, and two toasters, and two refrigerators. So Maniac ran away because he was sick of it. He ran all the way to the East End and he was from Two Mills in the west end. The East End was the black and the West End was the white. He makes a few friends. One offered of heard their house for him to stay so he did. He would always ask his friend Amanda Beal if he could borrow a book to read. He would always ask for the Encyclopedia letter A, the 1st one. She would always have to hide it and he would always find it too.
You can see it is a very good book. I would give it 40 stars and a lot of awards. That is why it is a great book

Maniac Magee is a story about a kid who lives with his aunt and uncle. They hate each other, but refuse to get a divorce. One day, Jeffrey (who later becomes known as “Maniac”) runs away. He ventures over to the East End (which is all black people) and soon finds Amanda Beale.
Maniac ends up staying with the Beale’s until one day a fellow black man writes “Fishbelly go home” on the Beales brick wall. He leaves the Beale’s and goes to the McNab’s. The McNab’s are nice people, just like the Beales, but they are different races and they hate each other. Maniac had been with many people, black and white. Though he was white, the black people didn’t seem to care. They graciously let him into their house to let him live there. One day Piper McNab asked Maniac to come to the bridge to help Russell (Piper’s brother). Maniac came, but left because this is where his parents had died. He ran off and lived in the zoo for a while until one day Amanda Beale came and dragged him back into the Beale family. He now had an actual home.
Maniac Magee was kind of confusing, but overall I thought it was a great book. You get so emotionally involved that if something bad happens to one of the characters, you feel the emotion that the character feels. I also liked the book because it teaches about prejudices.

Mia Thermopilis is a regular 14 year old geek "as she calls herself". She thinks nothing she wants will happen to her until her grandmother comes into town and tells her the big secret. She's a princess! The next day everyone at school knows who she is, she becomes popualr. And many other funny things happen in this book. I highly reccomend this book.

When Winnie, a rather bored and overly protected child, becomes friends with the Tuck family, her life is changed forever. The Tucks, mother and father and two sons, have inadvertently drunk from a well which freezes them in time and gives them everlasting life. They will never change, never grow old, never die. They know that the world must never be let in on their secret, for it would change life on earth for the worse. Then Mae Tuck kills the man in the yellow suit . If they try to execute Mae for the crime, their secret immortality will come out. If they merely keep her in prison, they'll see that she doesn't age. The dilemma for Winnie, Mae and Mae's family is extreme. And then there's Winnie herself. Should she drink from the well now? when she grows up? ever?

There are two sisters who move north for their father to get his job. While they're up there they find out who they really are. One sister gets sick and then tragedy comes upon them. This is the first book by Lois Lowry. I would give this book **,2 stars.

This story is a retelling of the life of two kids who start a normal life until something happens that changes their perspective on life forever. These kids learn that the world is not flawless and nothing in life is fair. I believe the author wrote this book to let us observe that there were some white people who treated the black people with respect and to let us realize how badly the blacks were treated. This story has a horrifying ending and helps us view life through different people's perspective.

The two kids in this story are a boy and a girl. They are the main characters. The boy's name is Jem and the girl's name is Scout. Jem and Scout are normal kids in this period of time. Their mom died so they have a black maid in their house named Calpurnia. These kids like to play outside with their friend Dill. They have a suspicious neighbor named Boo Radley. He never talks to anyone and he never comes out of his house. Jem, Dill and Scout are scared of him. Often times, they dare each other to try to approach Boo Radley's house. They have a tree by their house. The tree has a hole in it. Many times, they found small toys or candy in the hole. They do not know who has been giving them these mysterious gifts. Then there is a widely known court case in their neighborhood. A black man, Tom Robinson, is reported to the court that he raped a white woman, Mayella Ewell. Mayella lives in a poor family. Jem and Scout's dad, Atticus, is a lawyer and he is just and kind. He believes that Tom Robinson is innocent. He is anti-racist and decides to side with the Tom Robinson. Most of the other white people take Mayella Ewell's side. They are definitely racist. Many parents tell their children not to play with Jem and Scout because they disagree with Atticu! s. At school, Jem and Scout are teased a lot. Scout, in fact, gets into a duel with a few people. Soon this court case starts to get out of hand. People start to gang up against Atticus. Scout gets really mad.

Meanwhile, regular life goes on. Several things happen in this story. They are; Dill proposes to Scout, Scout and Jem visit a black church with Calpurnia, Miss Maudie's, Jem and Scout's neighbor, house burns down and Scout does really good in school. Soon the court case day comes. Atticus does a fantastic job of logically and clearly laying out the evidence so that it's obvious to everyone that Tom Robinson did not rape Mayella Ewell. The other lawyer does a bad job of presenting his facts. Meanwhile, Jem and Scout weren't supposed to come to the case, but they sneaked in and sat in the black section upstairs. After the break, they nervously await the jury's decision. You'll never guess what happened! Tom Robinson was found guilty! The man was really innocent. Jem and Scout's lives change. They wonder how this could happen. After this event, Jem and Scout aren't the Jem and Scout they used to be. They don't have the childish minds they had before. Their thinking has suddenly become more mature. After a while, when things settle down, the neighborhood has a show where each kid dresses up as a food to represent agricultural progress and they make a play. Scout is pork. Things are going fine until after the play. Jem and Scout are walking in the dark back from the play to their house. They start hearing scary noises. All of a sudden Mayella Ewell's dad, Bob Ewell, who was really mad at their dad, decided to get revenge by harming Atticus's kids. He starts trying to stab the kids with a knife. Then a man comes to their rescue. He prevents the bad man from hurting Jem and Scout. He saved their lives. Then Atticus comes quickly to take them home. Scout's small wounds would be worse if she hadn't been wearing her pork costume and Jem injured his arm. They probably would have been dead if it weren't for the man who rescued them. Scout thinks their dad rescued them, but their dad points to a man in the corner of the room who was quiet. It was Boo Radley! He was a skinny man who had really really white skin and hair. Then it dawned on Scout and Jem that Boo Radley was always in his house because he couldn't be exposed to light. We can infer from this that he was an albino. Boo Radley had been the one giving them gifts in the tree hole and he saved their lives. Then Scout became really good friends with Boo Radley that evening. Jem couldn't since he was unconscious. They never saw Boo Radley again.

I really liked this book because I could learn about different points of view people have. I can bring the morals in this story into my life. I can always stand up for what I think is right even if I'm the only one standing up for the truth. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes real life stories. If you like fantasy, I would recommend that you don't read this book. Much of the story has been cut off from this report so you should read the book yourself!

This book is a great book. At first Maniac Magee's name is Jeffrey Magee. A boy named McNab throws a frog "supposedly a baseball" and Jeffrey bunts it with a baseball bat.

The story is about a girl that gets to spend the night at the zoo and a man that escaped from jail hides in the zoo so its up to Ellen and Cory to protect themselves from the man.It is a mystery book and it is a really good book for 5th and 6th graders.If you like the books of Cam Janson you will definatley like this book!

I hope each kid gets an opportunity to read this book!!

I would strongly reccomend this book to anyone because I could connect his life to mine but not the dying part.

I really think that you will like this book for many different reasons.

As for the movie; it just so happens my friend Raoul and I went to see it this week. We liked it. We thought the actress who played Winnie was very good. We also thought the camera shots of the woods and the lake were very beautiful. Of course, it seems like when people make movies out of books, they always make little changes. This movie had some changes. Also, some of the characters looked different from how I imagined them and how the author described them. But I still thought it was a pretty good movie.
