Dear Elena and Jennifer:

Thank you for the hidden clue and knowing that I also remembered about the initials in the jam and it will be interesting if he is talking about Justice Strau because at the beggining I thought he was talking about Jackes Snicket.

Also I would like to know what do you thing about the sugar bowl.

I absolutely LOVE these books! the madison finn books are so good that i could read them 100 times and i would still like them. well, maybe i'm exxaggerating a little but these books are GOOD! they have pages of her files in there and the problems are based on what a regular girl goes through during junior high. even though they're meant for kids in junior high i think anyone could learn from them. even though madison often gets nervous in the books she always sticks through it. she learns to conquer her fears about what people think and what's going to happen. if i was a reviewer i would give these books five stars and two thumbs up.

These are possible clues that I got from reading the autobiography:

Jerome Squalor might have written the little snicket lad on page 9 because he said he was getting married at present.and Violet remembered hearing that song when she was very young."The world is Quiet here" is VFD's motto.Count Olaf used to be in VFD because everyone in it used to have to get a tatoo of an eye on their ankle, but not anymore.Jerome is probably in VFD.The Baudelaires may not know their real parents because it said that they take them from their homes and scatter them around the globe until they are old enough on page 46.notice that on page 75 the word DIARY is spelled DAIRY and that is why the people thought lemony was born on a dairy farm. What's with the cheesemakers?Hector is in VFD.The hot air mobile wasn't meant for duncan and isadora.Count Olaf got all his disguises from the VFD disguise kit.On page 168 there is something about a count having a son.this might mean count olaf has a son.

Does anyone else have any information?

I think that the books are very funny and real, although sometimes the author makes it so real that it's fake. Mia is very sincere and funny and has a heart of gold, althopugh it is INCREDIBLY annoying how she keeps selling her self-short throught-out the diary-format books, and then in the end realizing she was wrong and acting like she never had doubted herself. It's unfortunate that she has such low self-esteem, because she honestly is a very talented wonderful girl...read the books, you'll see what I mean. So far the 2nd and 3rd books have been my favorite. (I'm finishing up the 5th one, the mostlikely last book in the series.) The 4th one was eh, and the 1st one was good enough. The 5th one is pretty good so far. One thing I like about these books is that you can't put them down... you're just enveloped in them and you want to go to sleep or take a shower or whatever but the books just draw you into their spine and...-poof- back into the real world. It's like eating a little piece of heaven (a.k.a. German chocolate!) And Michael, who you will find out about if you read the books, is just soo...just like the Wonder-Boy, he's just the type of character every girl wishes was real and her own. I think good things come to Mia because she's a trooper, she doesn't give up. And I think you should read these books...:

It is good because they meet the Quagmires. I also liked the 7th. It was a very good book. I cannot wait until the Movie comes out!All of my friends and I are seeing it together.I am pretty sure it is all the books in one.I kind of hope it is not. I want there to be more than one movie, kind of like Harry Potter.

We just finished that clue about the 11th book and have figued something very important out!!!!

The answer to the clue is Many individuals have the same initials, which can lead to much injustice. The word injustice got me (elena) thinking.

Remember when Klaus is looking in the fridge and he finds the J.S. initials in the Jam? The J.S. doesnt stand for Jaques Snicket...it stands for Justice Strauss!!!!!!

Lemony snicket is a great author i loved both his fith and tenth book. i am exited for the next book i think lemony is going to write 2 more books ( go up to number 13) i want to know if count olaf kills the bouldalare 3. But lemony does continuesly remind us about unhappy endings. personally i think he should spend a little less time rambling on and on about his "past and preasent" but i love his books nonetheless. also if you look closely at his eyes you may see the picture of the tatoo on his left ankle1 try it i saw it!

Lois Lowry knows how to trigger your emotional feelings. The boy I would have never thought in my life would cry, did while getting to a depressing part.

The movie looks really good but the charactera are all wrong. In the first place Klaus has blonde hair, no glasses, and is taller than Violet. The actress playing Violet is good but she needs to be taller. The actress playing Sunny is ok but I think she needs to be smaller. And the fact that they have Jim Carrey playing Count Olaf and all the other characters is weird because 1) He is a funny actor for comedies and he is supposed to be mean 2) I hate it when they have one person playing many parts. Otherwise it looks good. And the page for the grim grotto (the 11th book) does not not have a title page and just words you can go to http://www.lemonysnicket.com/desc_grim.html
and it clearly shows you what the book is like. But never the less I love the books and am on my second time around reading them. Th grim grotto is coming out September 21st it also says that on the website.

The movie will be great with Jim Carrey. He's really funny and Count Olaf was written to be that way. They're supposed to make the movies three books at a time, then make the last book one Big movie. That means 5 movies which makes sense because the books are kinda small. Oooo! I saw Klaus with glasses in the trailer. He was reading books with them. I bet they're reading glasses.

The books were the best, and they're probaly the only books I will ever get my friends to read. I think Jim Carey will be HILARIOUS like Count Olaf was written to be). V. F. hey pplz i have good newz about the grim grotto i got the back cover for it! it reads as follows

Dear Reader,

Unless you are a slug, a sea anemone, or mildew, you probably prefer not to be damp. You might also prefer not to read this book, in which the Baudelaire siblings encounter an unpleasant amount of dampness as they descend into the depths of despair, underwater.

In fact, the horrors they encounter are too numerous to list, and you wouldn't want me even to mention the worst of it, which includes mushrooms, a desperate search for something lost, a mechanical monster, a distressing message from a lost friend, and tap dancing.

As a dedicated author who has pledged to keep recording the depressing story of the Baudelaires, I must continue to delve deep into the cavernous depths of the orphans' lives. You, on the other hand, may delve into some happier book in order to keep your eyes and your spirits from being dampened.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

hey everyone,
i wish to clear things up. first of all i would like to say that, yes the 11th book is going ot be called the grim grotto. i dont want to be rude but most of all you dudes and dudettes out there have serious spelling problems. i know i dont capitalize, and i have a good reason for it: it is a waste of my time. but you should at least spell so people can understand what your saying. another thing is that lemony snicket is daniel handler. lemony snicket is a pen name. for everyone who wants to know the read between the lines mystery here it is: "many individuals have the same initials which can lead to much injustice." wait i still have more, the 13th book will not be called the vicious victory because mr.snicket/handler doesn't use the same letters again. the 11th book will come out on sept. 11th because as you all know it was a misfortunate day so of course that makes sense. oh, for you dudes/dudettes that believe there might be more than 13 or less, there will be only 13. in case you have not noticed mr.snicket/handler does 13 chapters in every book and he will do 13 books as you all know that is an unfortunate number. i do not wish to reveal any more of the secrets.good luck!

i found something about where the vfd's club is. LSUA stand for lemony snickets unaurthorized autobiography so here it is:

LSUA pg xiii: "Older gentleman of my acquaintance...had been a member of a club...located in an enormous imposing mansion painted green, and decorated with a large imposing insignia on the door."

So, where is this club? It's obviously a VFD Club, because the insignia on the door is the VFD Insignia. So, now that we know that, where is this club located?

Well, monsieur J gives us some information about green mansions.

LSUA pg 42: "J: We stopped inscribing the insignia on the outside of our buildings a very long time ago, and we haven't used green wood as construction material for quite some time..."

So, now we know that the green wood and the insignia hasn't been used in a long time. Do we have a list of people who have a green wood house?

As a matter of fact we do.

LSUA pg 170: "Our special emerald lumber was used... for a few green homes, including the mansions constructed by the Snicket, Quagmire and Baudelaire families."

So, wow, that's interesting. We know that Quagmire home burnt down, and killed Mr. and Mrs Q, plus Quigley, and that was within the Quagmires life time (about ten years ago, in other words). We also know that the Baudelaire mansion was burned down just a few months ago, in Baud-Time.

That leaves the Snicket home. Now, we know that several VFD-ers visit the house, and neither the Baudelaires nor the Quagmires have ever mentioned seeing large numbers of strangers visit their house.

However, none of them have ever mentioned the Snicket house, and thus wouldn't know if large meetings were held there.

So, it's entirely possible that the VFD Club was located at the Snicket mansion, which was probably burned down "quite some time" to a "very long time ago."

So, there's the Official Unofficial FAQ Answer. The VFD Club was located at the Snicket Mansion.

grim means a forbidden place or a unn happy person i would go with a forbidden olace that fits in with the series. grotto means a under water cave so together it is a forbidden under water cave. im not sure but maybe the cave is the last safe place bacause they burn down v f d head quarters thats the the last safe place because thay cant burn it down its under water. OR the tumbling towers 12th book is the last safe place because in the slippery slope they said the last safe place was a hotel. Hotels r like towers and u kno hao count olaf wanted to burn it down weel there u go they probably burn it and it tumbles down the last book is the vicious victory i dont kno but thats probably about the baudelairs won found there dad or mom and dad and count olaf got arested or died.

Klaus does have glasses in the movie. He only uses them as reading glasses though. The title of the eleventh book is The Grim Grotto. It is scheduled to come out September 21. The cover is still being decided. One says This Book Is Too Awful For Art and the other has a picture of Klaus in a scuba divers outfit. I also agree with ReadsALot. The movie will be great with Jim Carrey. The books were written to be funny. All these people saying it'll be a terrible movie are going to be proven wrong. Don't always judge a book by it's cover or in this case a movie by it's trailer. I also have some neat things you may want to know about the characters.

Olaf is a Scandinavian name. Klaus is a German name (pronouced Cloud and rhymes with mouse). And in the unauthorized bio., there's a newspaper clip that says: Ship Departs Early: The Prospero, a ship that was scheduled to leave yesterday from Daedalus Dock at eight P.M. sharp, but instead left shortly before five o'clock for reasons unknown.

This means that in the second book, when Count Olaf gets ready to whisk them away to Peru on the ship called the Prospero, Olaf's plans would've been foiled anyways even if Violet, Sunny, and Klaus didn't reveal his plans to Mr. Poe.

Here is ~*some*~ of the information i have gathered so far

V.F.D.-A secret organization dealing with fires, families, and disguises. some members consist of Uncle Monty,Baudelaire family,Quagmire famiy,Olaf and his troop,Aunt josephine(she used the sebald code hint hint),The guy who floated away in the balloon with the 2 of the remaining quagmires(my sources have lost his name in our aray of files),snicket family, jerome squaler, and many more that have been killed and are in hiding at the remainig bases.

There have been some similarities my sources have noticed. Almost all of the members are in a family. The children to that family dont realize they are even in the VFD. They all have some special skill. May it be iventing, researching, biting, notetaking, secret messages in poems, and or any other seemingly useless skill that really turns out to come in handy in danger.
My sources have also deteced disguises involved in vfd. ex. count olaf baudelaire children, and quigley.
This information ruling out the theory of Volunterr Fir Department.
Enlisted are my reasons,
1.volunterr fire department members dont dress in disguises
2, they arent a secret orginization.
3. half of them arent evil.
4.they dont relly involve detective type of work. which would be a skill of the 1 they call lemony snicket.

The main clues to this series of unfortunate event would be in the autobiography, the slippery slope ,the carnivorous carnival, the hostile hospital, and the vile village.AS someone pointed out earlier the bindings also give out clues.

Tht is all i feel like typing for now. hopefully with your help we can discover more information about the baudelaires and their series of unfortunate events.

Mr. Snicket sends his regards to all who can help him with his following of the baudelaires story.

With all due respect,
Mike

I think we can all agree that their are clues on upcoming books and clues about this whole plot throughout the series. In the Slippery Slope i am sure that their are more clues than in any other books in the series beside the autobiography. The code used the most in the autbiogRAPHY WOULD be called THE SEBALD CODE obviously created by dr. sebald. If you notice all of the letter in the autobiography have underlined words in them. those words for phrases and senttances. duh!!!! if you notice the word are every ten letters. also in the glossary in the back their is vital info. but wut i think that since human all learn in deifferent ways a group of all the readers of lemony snickets books aka daniel handler should get together. one mind may not be able to find all of the clues but a group of minds can! we could have like a newsleter thingy between emails sharing wut we know. or we could use this site for our discussion/newsletter thingy. if you support my idea juss say so. my email is darkzero737@yahoo.com

With all due respect,
Mike

p.s. the official title of book the 11th is in fact the grim grotto in this book my sources have believed that their could be a surviving vfd base herebecause the bad side of vfd burns the bases but if the base was in the water (in the grotto) it could not be burned down cuz its underwater duh!!!! BTW a grotto is an underwater cave duh!

I love these books! I suggest that everyone reads it. It's a great book for people of all ages. Teachers should get their students to read them. I read all the books so far. They are so fun!

The Movie:
There's been alot of disagreement on who plays Count Olaf. In my opinion Jim Carrey is a very good choice. He'd be really good in all the disguises; I don't really think someone like Jason Isaacs is going to agree to wearing women's clothing (Book 4, The Miserable Mill). The movie is supposed to be funny after all! Besides he doesn't just do comedies (The Majestic for instance).
The Books:
First of all the book IS fiction. I was reading some stuff on here and some people thought it was real. Just wanted to clear that up. Lots of people think the next book is called something like the Grim Gameroom or something like that but personally I think it's the Grim Grotto 'cuz that's what it says on the website, but at least we can all agree that it's Grim *Something*.

I read a book when I was in High School back in 1981-82. It was about a girl who was haunted or followed by a red fox. She first sees the fox peering from behind a tree in the woods, then later she begins to see it often and in odd places. no one else seems to see it but her. the cover had a picture in night colors of a girl with long black hair (I think)glancing back towards some trees and a fox looking back at her from the stand.

What do The Hardy Boys, Tom Sawyer, Nancy Drew, Star Wars,
Huck Finn, & Tom Swift all have in common?

These are the comparisons that the readers of Max Elliot Anderson's Christian chapter adventure books are making. Following are comments from readers of the first three books from Tweener Press: NEWSPAPER CAPER - TERROR AT WOLF LAKE - NORTH WOODS POACHERS:

North Woods Poachers $10.95 0-9729256-8-6

Written in the manner of a good, old-fashioned Hardy Boys - style mystery. Liz Duckworth, CBA Marketplace, Christian Booksellers Association

For the young pre-teen and early teen male, this is a must read. I gave the book to an eleven-year-old boy who does not read books unless forced to, and he read it cover to cover in one setting. One of the best series of books since Tom Swift came out 40 years ago. Fred Tyson, a grandfather.

NORTH WOODS POACHERS is a really exciting story. When I finished reading it, I wanted to read it again. It's better than Nancy Drew mystery stories. The characters were so real that it seemed as if I was there as an onlooker - not just reading a book. There was just enough danger without being too scary. This book is perfect for kids who like mystery stories. Kaiti, 11 years old

From beginning to end I was wondering what was going to happen next. I just couldn't put it down. Usually my mom has to tell me to read at least 10 pages a day but she doesn't have to with this author. Brian, 14 years old

Terror at Wolf Lake $10.95 0-9729256-6-X

What a great story! I was hooked from page one to the end. It is rare that anything hooks me like that…except for Star Wars, of course. Caleb, 8 years old

I am not sure if I've ever seen my son so riveted
by a book---he was hooked and totally immersed himself in this read! All
literature should so make a child soar like this book did! Caleb’s Mom

Newspaper Caper $9.95 0-9729256-4-3

This is Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn if they lived in modern American suburbia. Heather Hunt, reviewer

Max Elliot Anderson will have Christian moms everywhere enthusiastic about his books about young boys’ adventure books - he is writing books for our children, geared at some really challenging years, sometimes referred to as the "tween" years. These books were great for ME to read - and for my 7 1/2 year old son who is just now getting into "chapter books" as he calls them.

At the end picture of each book there is a link to the next one. This is what i have thought up of:

1. The snake around the lamppost
2. The Lachrymose Leeches sign on the van
3. The eyes above where Captain Sham is escaping
4. The school bus
5. The salmon sticker on the bumber of Olaf's car
6. The crow flying past Veblen Hall
7. The paper reading, "The Last Chance General Store"
8. Madame Lulu's booklet in the trunk
9. The Snow Scout's Handbook

I don't know 10 for sure but i think that it might be the mushrooms growing nearby

I think that these books are great and this is what i think the books are going to be called:

1. The Bad Beginning
2. The Reptile Room
3. The Wide Window
4. The Miserable Mill
5. The Austere Academy
6. The Ersatz Elevator
7. The Vile Village
8. The Hostile Hospital
9. The Carnivorous Carnival
10. The Slippery Slope
11. The Grim Grotto
12. The Tumbling Towers
13. The Questionable Quagmire

I said the Tumbling Towers because out of all the possible titles this is the one that came up the most. As for the Questionable Quagmire this hasn't come up before but i would like the last book to be called this. The last book can't be called the Vicious Victory because of the Vile Village and you can't use the same letter.

Most of you have been writting that this series was great and I agree...even though I am supposedly to old for these books (it's ages 5-8). There will be 13 books, why(?)...well because 13 is an unlucky number and (as the readers know) the Baudelaires are unlucky (it makes sence).
Superisingly the movie was planned to have hit theaters near you in December of 2003, but because of a number of set backs (money, the actor's schedules
, and locations)it is now planning on making it to theathers on December 17, 2004. The movie will be starring Emily Browning (who also acted in Darkness Falls and Ned Kelly) as Violet, Liam Aiken (from Good Boy) as Klaus, Kara and Shelby Hoffman as Sunny and of coarse Jim Carrey as Olaf. Also the director will be Brad Silberling (also director of City of Angels)
Toodles!

Music of the dolphins is a really great book. Itis about a girl who is stranded on an island her whole life and some scientists find her on an island in Havana Cuba. The scientists take her to a lab and study her.She speaks dolphin . Her name is Mila. She really misses her island. Will Mila ever go back or will she not that is for me to know in the meantime intill you read the book. Also a reason I am atached to the book is because I am Cuban and I come from Havana Cuba.So go to the libray and check it out. Why Mila is on land she really likes it but she wants to go back to the sea will the scientists let her. While Mila is at the lab she learn to speak like humans. The book was sort of sad and happy and ive read the book over and over again because it is such a great book. The person who inspried me to read it was my sister Carrie.Music of the dolphins is definlty in my top ten books to read and are my favorite. This book is sutibtle for 5,6,and 7th grade. But when you read the book let me know of what you think about it and what would you do if you were in Milas position. Also as your reading the book it will go to large to small font because of what Mila is learning.
