Netiquette
(or: How to Stop Shouting and Have Good Manners
on the Internet)
Planet Book Club is a friendly place. Everyone treats each other with respect.
When you join a book discussion at this web site, you agree to follow certain
guidelines. Here's a list of dos and don'ts for posting messages.
- Do stick to the book. It's fine to say
hello to your online friends, but the major part of your comment should be
about the book.
- Do be polite. Messages such as "your comment
is stupid" or "you are stupid" are not welcome.
- Don't give away the story for other readers. Check with your teacher
to find out what chapters are on the schedule for a certain week. If your
class is ahead of schedule, don't write anything in your message that will
spoil the book for readers who are a few chapters behind you.
- Don't repeat keyboard characters to create
very long words with no breaks. (Examples: "WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZUUUUUUUPPPPPP"
and "This book is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!") This messes up the formatting
of the message board.
- Don't use all capital letters. This is
like shouting, and it's rude in a book discussion.
- Don't include your e-mail address or screen
name in a message. This is not safe. If you wouldn't hand the information
to an adult stranger, then don't publish it on the Internet.
Thank you for your attention to these guidelines!
With your help, we'll have great online book discussions.
